Just joined the PRADO club ;) after cross-shopping 2024 Bronco Raptor and 2013-2015 G550 G-Wagons.

I can't believe no one has ragged on the Xterra yet  ; guess I should just be appreciative.

I had time this weekend to set up the digital key. Very cool feature even though I know it will be standard on most vehicles soon enough.

Question regarding the "Digital Key" you wrote of: Are you simply referring to the Toyota app lock/unlock functionality or is there an actual digital key I am was unaware of similar to Rivian, Tesla, maybe Lucid?

I was digging around the app and did not see a digital key function? Essentially allowing passive entry and the ability tor start and drive with one's smart phone (without key fobs).

It is a digital key. Lock, unlock, remote start, drive without key fob

As I am posting this I have not actually driven using the digital key. I haven’t been able to get it to work yet. According to the toyota website and landcruiser forum you can drive using only the digital key. It isn’t available on the 1958 edition. And the app can be a bit wonky.

on the GX-digital key enables the use of your iPhone as a functional key. no need for the FOB. the phone app has remote capabilities for lock, unlock, location and a lot more.
There is also a key that resembles a credit card that also functions as a key for driving, unlock etc-but it has no buttons for remote activation. the vehicle proximity senses it the same as a FOB, digital key and allows the touch lock/unlock and allows the operation of the vehicle. too many options really but nice tech.

xterra/frontier are some of the best midsize 4wds ever made

parts are cheap and easy, easy to work on, manuals in both, and rugged/reliable

is your X for sale?!
Already sold it and I could not agree with you more. My old Xterra was built like a Sherman Tank and the door thunk was better than on my LC 250.

Sorry for beating a dead horse, I read about others complaints with it; does not seem ready for prime time. Amazing how far behind Toyota is with technology.

i know...i know...but this is a 'Land Cruiser'

digital key? app? get outa here!

just one more thing that was focused on/resources used for instead of a laser focus on build quality, reliability, dependability, ruggedness, ease of maintenance, and longevity

a 'land cruiser' needs none of this tech

i'm sure for insurance/liablity sake.....they go way conservative with battery protection
I get that and, if I were a Prius engineer, that idea would make sense.
