yup, if youre keepin it you should prob just turbo it too

Awww.. no.. The 2H has done such honorable and long service - let it enjoy the good pasture of regular maintenance and occasional use - its earned it! Lets not flog it to within an inch of its life as its retirement gift. :(

;)

As I am breaking in the newly rebuilt motor, I have done a bit of math on the fuel mpg. In town driving only, looks like I got 20.183 mpg on my last tank. I got to see what it does on the highway, but I am pleased none the less. I should expect at least 22 on the highway, I think.
Will report.

I'll drive to the office tomorrow. It's a 140mile round trip. I am curious to see how it does. On another note, i think I'll add an additional mufler, at high speeds, it's kind of loud, lol

I'm keen to hear if you notice any drop off in power with the additional muffler.

It'll be just another straight through muffler. I doubt that there would be any noticeable drop in power, but we'll see.

Done some highway, not enough to warrant a fillup. It's quite comfortable at 75. I do think the sweet spotis 70mph with my 31's.Super happy. I'm gonna take her out again till I get at least 100 to 150 miles of driving to gauge a proper mpg. Not that it matters, but interested to see.

I'ma drive it a bit more tomorrow and then I'll do an oil change. I think I am coming up on 500 miles or so.

Had some edic trouble. Noticed the relay clicking intermittently, truck wanting to shut off but not and so on. I took the edic motor apart and found that toyota really packs these full of grease. The grease finds it's way on the contacts blade and shorts them out. The grease basically bridges the gap between the contacts, essentially closing a circuit. Cleaned all that excess grease and it good to go. Should last a good while now. I made sure to re grease the gears sufficiently so as to not cause any problems down the road.

On another note, I am happy to say that I turned down the fuel half turn and it completely eliminated the black smoke under full load. I'll try it like this for a bit to see how she behaves. I might go back out a quarter turn if it ain't liking it uphill.
Very happy now.

Been driving the new old girl quite a bit
Got the first oil change done. I think around 600 miles since the rebuild. In hopes of quieting her down, I have added an extra muffler. It's a flownaster 10". Still pretty free flow but as expected, it did quiet the truck some, albeit not too much, lol. Now it sounds like a cummins.
I am planing on adding a section of flex pipe next week. Will post some pics once that is done. Other than that, she's going strong. Keep on trucking guys.

you know its amazing how much a turbo quiets up an exhaust.......

I know, I had a 16" stub of a down pipe when I had a turbo on it, and it wasn't this loud.
Not turbo-ing just yet.

Can you adjust the fuel/air ratio on these diesels?
I've noticed my 3B runs with some black smoke at full load on some hills, or when bombing down the highway. Was always curious where the "tunability" of mechanical injectors and diesels are. Only ever owned carbureted vehicles/motorcycles.

The fuel adjuster screw is on the back of the pump. Mine was same. I assume motor was tired and PO was trying to keep it going by adding fuel. After my rebuild, I turned down the fuel one quarter turn. Black smoke is gone. I have to get my GoPro under there, but I used to see it in my rear-view mirror. I now see none and the truck runs beautiful. Drove 150 miles today on the highway at 70 to 75 mph. 2500 RPM is where it likes it most. That translates to 70 mph on my truck.
