When are you going to paint that bad boy? git er done!!!

I know!

I have been looking into doing it myself. I've found a Booth i can rent here in Denverfor $250.00 a day. I have a buddy the has a spray gun, now i just need to learn to paint and PREP! I am getting a book.

I finished the back brakes today. I am now a Brake Drum tech!! Just kidding!

Here are the old shoes!!!!!
see the big Crack?

Freshly turned Drums! - the guy said he barely got em in Spec.

The shoe and HW replacement was pretty easy. I just did what people said and kept one side together while I did the other. I did have to take one side back apart because I left out the washer on the adjuster screw. I tested it, and its stops. So we're good!

It has 4Runner Disk Brakes in the front, but the mod to put disks in the rear is tough, and you don't really need them in the back IMO.

I started the replacement of the front third member on Saturday.

I got both knuckles torn down in under two hours - I was impressed with myself:rolleyes:

I got the Front Drive shaft off and the old Third pulled. It then took me an hour to wire brush all the old gasket off the diff. housing.

If i never have to do that again, it will be too dang soon!

By the time i got that far i had to go be baby-sitter while my wife went to a friends baby shower.

Then all day yesterday We were Tailgating for the Broncos/Raiders Game.
:beer::beer:

I plan to finish the third install and put some more photos up of the work on my day off this friday.

So I got the front third in - this was a tought job, I had to disassemble the Knuckles again, and pull out the birfields, again.

I mananged to get them out without completely removing the Brake dust shield, and not having to re-bleed the front brakes. so that was good.

While I was pulling the front drive shaft, I was having trouble getting a wrench on the shaft bolt heads on the transfer case side. When I looked a little closer i noticed there is a slot in the Transmission Cross member to slide your open end wrench through (it was filled with Dirt/Grease). Good Ole TOYOTA!

Also, The FJ62 front half of the front Driveshaft I got from Specter fit perfectly on to the original 60 back half.

Once i got everything back together I took her for a spin around the neigborhood, and put it into 4Hi and then 4low, I can really tell the difference in the gearing.

:frown:

Alas, I only have a little money left ing the "Cruiser fund" for now.

I also have a Bathroom to Re-model so of course the Crusier has to take a back seat for a while. Im hoping the weather holds and i can get some of the painting prep done for it in November. If not It will be back into hibernation until spring.

Looks great!!
What size tires you running?

Thanks man!

those are 33 X 10.50's

winter is where the 60 shines! Hibernate not my ethanol guzzling brother.

No You're right, but No Plates or insurance, so I will probably cover it to keep it dry and Free af any more rust!

If this winter is anything like last year in Denver, It'll be buried for 6 weeks.
The only Ethanol I guzzle is in some Budweiser!:beer:
my Taco is a different story.

A little glimpse into the future -

This is Rustoleum High performance "sand" color, I have decided to try the foam Roller method to paint my 60. This is a small test panel i did on my old tailgate. As you can see, It doesn't quite match the factory Tan, but It looks decent and Im getting paint on it for Cheap.

And If it sucks when its done - lesson learned and I'll get it Sprayed.

Update -

Its been a While almost 2 months!

I started the Body/paint prep.

Basically my plan to keep myself busy this winter is to paint all the body parts individually in my garage. Im starting with the hood, then the front fenders then the Doors, hatch and tailgate. I'LL finish the body outside in the spring. I have a feeling it will take at least that long to do all the sanding and rolling i need to do.

I think i mentioned befoire that I'm trying the Rustoleum roller method. anyway, i bought two gallons of the Rustoleum "Sand" color and decided that it's too peachy as some others have mentioned in the paint and body forum. I decided to see what would happen to it if i were to mix in some Smoke Grey so here it is. My mostly sanded hood, with a paint sample on top.

The sample on the right is the unmixed "sand"
the sample on the left is 3 parts "sand" and 1 part "Smoke Grey"

It still doesn't match the old paint perfectly, but its closer and i like the color better. I am rolling on the first coat, probably later this week.

garage floor is too clean for you to be a cruiser owner. please stage some grease and oil stains so the rest of us feel better.

oh, nice work on the truck:D

THat's the hood amigo.

my garage floor is disgusting!

Nice Color

I really like the mixed color better than the straight "sand' color. I am interested to see how this comes out. Maybe I will swing by after you get some parts done and see how it turns out in person.

I must admit, I am really liking that color for my 60 some day... it is really growing on me.

Project 60 -

Anytime! just PM me and we'll set it up. I should be getting paint on the hood this week.

also - I started a thread in the paint and Body section to document my progress in a little more detail, since Im not doing much besides body work for a while.

yesterday was so nice!,

I pulled to 60 out from under the tarp to Get the front Doors off.

Took a shot of it with the front end taken apart.

When I get the paint done and start putting the panels back on, I'm going to get after cleaning the engine bay and do a 1" body lift. no better time than when its all apart anyway.
