Time for a quick update. The trip is coming up fast and we are now finalizing the last few details. I built a quick fire extinguisher mount with 1.5" x 1/8 flat bar, the small mount that came with the extinguisher and a Velcro strap riveted to the flat stock.

Made a sealed carrier out of pvc pipe and fittings to carry the Scepter fuel can spout. I cut the clear tube a bit to make the whole thing a bit more pack-able but still usable. I had to shave off the little knobs around the screwing part to make it fit inside the cap.

Almost finished with the drawer/sleeping platform setup.

The extension is made of a table with fold away legs. the drawer side is secured to the box using: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004OHTRE0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and the front is supported by 2 of the folding legs.

What you have done so quickly has my head spinning! It seems you have done this trip before as your build is so absolutely thorough. I commend your work and wish you an unforgettable trip.

Hey, Saw your thread when you started, now you're ready to go, Awesome Just remember you won't be in Canada anymore, it is the land of thieves down here. If it can be stolen it will be. Please make sure you have an alarm with an immobilizer, double or even triple lug nut locks on every wheel, even the spare, swing arm lock, weld the nuts on your winch. Make sure you always pay to park in a lot with security and a big wall around it (many places aren't made for tall vehicles). Oh, and the regular Toyota door locks can be beat in seconds, most people have deadbolt style lock cylinders installed in place of the stock ones to slow the thieves down. Get a steering wheel club too.

The first place you find that will install the window security film, do it, makes it a little harder for them to do the smash and grab. Make stealing frustrating for the thieves and they will leave you alone, maybe, but gringo is always a target. 99% of the people are great, but 50% are opportunists.

I'm in Peru and have seen it all. Nothing surprises me anymore. I live along the Pan Am in Arequipa, southern Peru. Look me up when you make it down here.

And don't forget it is okay to offer a "gift" to an official to make things go smoother or go away.

Have an awesome trip!! Que vayas con Dios

GPS Maps... Forgot to give you a link to this site Perut.org it has routable GPS maps and links (on the right side "Proyectos Similares") to other sites for more Central and South American maps. I have been using them for 4 years and they work well with Garmin Basecamp, but sometimes don't show the newest routes.

It helps to know Spanish to use the site, but the admins speak English too.

Thanks for the heads-up Darell. Ill make sure to incorporate some of those tips. Its funny that you mention the lockable lug nuts as I lost my key this weekend and was amazed on how easy they are to remove with a 12 point socket. Thanks for the link, ill make sure to look at it. any Idea on how much safety film would cost down there and how available/common it is? Also, do you have any picture of the deadbolt you are speaking of?

7 Days until departure!!! Got a bunch of maintenance done;
-All control arm bushings
-Repacked and changed TRE booths
-Flushed coolant with Toyota red and changed all rubber hoses
-made a bracket for a small safe and tacked the mounting bolts.
-Tacked mounting bolts on the winch and awning
-Added a locking tab to the De-Staco latch for the propane tank
-Hung a beautiful curtain with a map of the world the my mom drew for me
(Merci Maman)
-Mounted my small 2-way radio

-Changed all exhaust bushing.
-Added an anti condescension mat in the tent. I used some left over "SuperSeal Dimpled Membrane" left over from a construction site. It gives me almost an inch of air circulation between the mattress and the floor of the tent.
20161023_131647.jpg

-Ran 12v power to the tent to run an led light strip and a small fan. I was too lazy to drill into my roof so I decided to connect it to a 12 v socket near the rear hatch and connect it every time I open the tent.

the kitchen box legs are from a fold-able plastic table I got at Walmart. originally the legs on the table were mounted outside of the square tubing frame. my kitchen box being only 14" wide, I wanted the legs to be as wide as possible for maximum stability. So I chopped all the parts apart and reassembled them to have the legs on the outside. Works great now, but definitely not a bolt on kind of deal.
(hope that makes sense?)
