Who is the source of the engine?

We have had lots of discussion on rebuilding and stuff. I would send your engine to a reputable, LOCAL, machine shop and let them do it. You then have control over the outcome, and by keeping it local you can hold somebody accountable if something isn't right.

Japanese Engine Inc. in Cali. I don't know anything about them really, just had the best price. I did consider rebuilding the current engine. However I've read threads where people go through partial builds only to find tons of problems and then they spent more than or close to how much a new engine would cost. I also figured starting new affords me the ability to do a good portion of the build myself without messing with the internals (saves time and headache), plus savings by doing work myself. I also don't really trust mechanic shops or anyone else for that matter so I'm leery to put that much trust in someone else.

Anyone have local recommendations cause I'm at least willing to go talk with them.

Does anyone know if you can run gas & propane off & on or do you have to go one way? Thanks!

EDIT: I'm aware of these people: http://www.gotpropane.com/p11.html. However they say you can only use propane, but city trucks use both with the flip of a switch.

Decided to go with this rear bumper instead. Better for towing, made just for the 4R and has towing points.

Nice. Looks heavy. Prepare to get some stiff springs, maybe air bags.

If it's already heavy in the rear and I haul a heavy load, should it be enough to add a leaf and do the spring mod too or should I do heavy springs?

Thanks! -Daniel Kent

Our family has officially named our 4Runner after the truck in Romancing The Stone (Little Mule "Pepe"). :D

As for the poly in the rear, I don't like all the OEM plastic panels and it's just gonna break. I may try to put some sort of lockable storage to keep things safe. Like this, but water tight...

Funny... I have manuals for '84, '85, '86, and '88 trucks (plus '92 and '94). But I own an '87.

LOL! :D

I feel like there should not be a lot of variation in the 85-87 manuals. The only one I could find was an 88. Best money I ever spent. The best time I ever spent was running text recognition on the 87 pdf manual I have. Now searching is extra easy!

Makes sense. I'm super glad I found a paper back, but I'm also going to get the PDF version as well for the reason you stated!

I also have an '88 Electrical manual, and it has been VERY helpful. Very detailed, full detail on each system with diagrams of all the connectors, showing exactly where they all are.

Does it go into more detail than the main FSM? Found one, so I might buy it.

It has more detail than the wiring diagrams in the FSM. It breaks out each system and shows the wiring, plus where the wires and connectors are. Shows a diagram of the end of each connector, and what pins are used for what. Wow, that is in nice shape, where did you find that?

Great! Just did a quick search on eBay a there it was. :D Lucky me I guess.
