Last night was supposed to be a light evening on the Cruiser, but turned into a NO-Go on the Cruiser, after a baby class at the hospital. So, it'll be full bore tonight, after I get the yard mowed. If I wait until I get back, my daughter will get lost in the grass (I guess I should say weeds).

My prep: Install sliders, get a 285 spare, go to storage unit in Indian Land only to find out that ALL camping gear, tow strap, and fire extinguisher cannot be reached without emptying the entire unit. I did find the box labled "MBR-Shoes" and decided to grab my KEENs. I decided to leave that alone when I opened the box and found all shoes (wife's and mine) individually wrapped. And, my table that is 6' and can fit into the back of the 100 with some creative packing is really 8' and has never traveled in the 100. I bought it when I had the Tacoma. (Don't worry Rick, I still have access to one or two 6' tables that I'll bring.)

So...I'm hoping the safety check guys will still let me get the 100 dirty even though I don't have some of the "must-haves":confused: because I don't have the time to buy duplicates before it's time to leave.

What do you need? I have a spare first aid kit and fire extinguisher in my FJC you can use for the trip.
 
Mostly just need to find a tow strap. I can get other stuff from my dad, but his strap has hooks.

I thought I put all the "truck stuff" in my 100 or in the tool box (that didn't go to storage) before the movers came to the house. Apparently not.:censor:

I'm in the same boat, tow strap with hooks. Might make a good tree saver, but that's about it. I also don't have any shackles yet. I am hoping to have my winch on tonight, so that should help.

Any thoughts on our "safety", considering it's highly unlikely either of us are going out without a group of people?
 
No hooks on tow straps. You can pick up D shackles at Northern Tool for about $10 to $15 each that are rated the same as Warn D shackles. It is not good to cheap out on recovery equipment b/c it can come back to bite you in a really bad way...but we can't always drop a ton of coin at a moments notice...now I'm rambling.

I won't be driving my FJC everyday so if I hop in with someone else I can bring my recovery equipment over...no problem.
 
I suggest you buy raffle tickets! :clap:Two recovery kits from ACC in the list of swag include straps, shackles, etc...and until Saturday night I'm sure we'll have plenty of recovery gear in each group that goes out. At least I'll make sure there is enough in each group or we'll shift gear to accomodate. True to the UC motto: Something for Everyone!

Yeah to ditto what Rick said if you have any kind of recovery gear it doesn't matter if it's one tow strap...bring it. Some remember the recovery we made about 3 years ago on the MLK run where we pulled this poor guy out with his heavy ass duely chevy truck. We were not fully stocked on the recovery gear we had so it was a lil dangerous at times and the pucker factor was a ten. So like Rick said we need to be sure we have enough gear for all our groups other wise we're gonna just have one big group....lol. So guys have fun with the rest of the week and I can't wait to see everyone this weekend....my wife is looking forward to kickin me out of the house this weekend!!!!
 
Well Big Gay is not looking good. Put everything back on it today. Minus the bumper and winch. Fueled her up and backed out the driveway. Knew I was having fuel issues but I wanted to make it to the gas station and back as a goal I had set. Going there was quick. I honestly can say I can light up the rear tires on the old gal. She fast and mean. Nothing was working right but it was still running. Got 2 gallons of gas and then nothing, but the sound of the starter turning over and check engine lights flashing. After about 5 min of checking things an old black man said from a distance. " Sounds like your not getting enough gas." I said it was getting to much gas. By this time he was walking over to me. I felt like Alan Funk from candid camera. He was talking about adjusting the jets and midway though the sentence he said good God almighty son what is that? That's no normal motor. No I said it's big gay. At that point his wife who was in the car beside us told Bernard to get back in the car and go. He said "Wait a Minuit, wait a Minuit. Then turns to me and say damn! What is it? I gave the story and he and I shook hands and I assured him I could walk home if I had to. He offered a ride but there was no way some gay man was going to ride in her new car.


SO I got back in it pushed the throttle all the way down and started it didn't want to run but I limped it out into the main road as I turned left it came to life. It came in a big way. Enough to spin me around 180 degrees but I kept the gas down and kept shifting. Mustangs have nothing on me. Got it around the next turn and let loose. Running real rich bad rich but running. Got her in the driveway to verify the fuel pressure gage was spun all the way around. Code flashes 45 which means I'm rich go figure.

So now I need to route a new return line from the tank to the TBI and I think my issues will be solved. Yeeee Hawwwwww

Holy dog poo. Knowing you like I do and reading your story (the quoted section above in particular) might be one of the funniest things I've read in a long, long time. Beer on the keyboard I tell you! :lol:

Not to make light of your difficulties Marshall but that is some priceless, gut busting stuff right there... :beer:
 
:lol: That's funny stuff right thar! Good luck getting that line routed and it should be awesome on the trails.

As for me and mine, last night was button up night, mostly. Put the gear oil in and checked a few bolts. Glad I did, I had forgotten to tighten 2 of the front driveshaft bolts (I had put the truck in 4wd so I could tighten the bottom 2 and must have forgotten to shift back to 2wd so I could tighten the top 2. :doh:). Got the CB mounted, and I can pick up truckers on 85, a little SWR action, and I'll be good. Took the bumper off to put the winch on and made a startling discovery. It's REALLY hard and tedious to try to drill out the frame horn rivets with a cordless drill, AND, I don't have the hardware for the bumper. So, I doubt I'll have that on before I leave tomorrow. But, it does look mean all naked up front...

Tonight the plan is weld on the DS slider, and paint the frame where slider mounts, pack up, and call it a day!
 
Put the LTBs back on last night. Had to apply some BFH power to the rims. Didn't realize how bad they got banged up in Chattanooga last time. And noticed my diff skid was dangling a little funny. Needed much more than retorquing--nuts were almost off the bolts! How'd I miss that on Saturday?! Double checked everything else while I had it up on the lift.

Last minute shopping and packing of gear tonight. Looking forward to getting back to the woods.
 
Got the DS slider welded on, skid plate back up under the TC, fluids check, 60 packed, and all I lack is packing up the cold stuff right before I leave. LET'S GO WHEEELIN'!!
 
Last night:

Found the camping gear after a year of no use. I am sure the tent is going to smell lovely.
Got some propane and other expendables at the local Target.
Tightend up the lug nuts
Found the tool bag and spare front half axle, tie rods, etc.
Picked up the full powertank

Tonight:

Softball game at 6:30
Find more extra parts somewhere in the sea of pig parts
Pack truck


Whooo hooo, can't wait!
 
OK, scratch the powertank. It just blew it's relief valve. Guess they overfilled it a bit. It *might* be ready tomorrow AM. If not, I am borrowing air from someone!

Oh, and 20 pounds of CO2 in a confined space makes you loopy. That is all.
