Well that would be very nice if your dad lets you keep it, lucky.. Lol.

The head looks good! Im kind of confused as to what your concern is with the valve seals?

Edit: I'm an idiot, I was responding to the last post on page 1 and did not realize there were 3 more pages...doh

That little cylinder should be the filter for the dashpot, but to be honest with you, that does not look like the filter on mine, yours looks more like a 1-way check valve, which I guess may also work fine. On my '88 22re, the dashpot has a short piece of vac line, with a little plastic piece that has kind of a scotchbrite looking filter, and it just normally hangs there right by the intake.

Well if the valves look good, then lets leave it at that. I need the torque values for the head.

Not so fast! The chain guides are broken and need to be replaced as well. So now I need to take apart the whole front and replace that.

On a good note, I managed to finish cleaning and rebuilding my brake calipers and remount them. No new discs, no new pads. New calipers in the future prevents me from getting all new hardware. All I need to do is bleed them, and if I'm not mistaken you have to do that with the truck running right?

So in order to continue at this point, I need to sell some sportster parts and my snowboard to keep my steady flow of cash comin in... Did I mention some hi-lux parts?

Yeah typical 22re plastic chain guides..

Replace them with engbldr's steel rail driver side guides and forgetaboutit.

Awsome on rebuilding the calipers, any pics??

And as for bleeding brakes, AFAIK you do not need the engine to be on.

We bleed the brake system on my buddies 92' while in the process of swapping out his hydrolocked 3.slow. Worked fine, havnt had a problem since.

Keep the updates comin'! And more PICS! :D

And hi-lux parts? No you did not! Do tell!

Parts for the hi lux are from early 80s model ac system, to include the heater core and dash. Sun visors some ducts, an engine wiring harness, body lift kit. Rear sliding windows, grill, steering column, headlight plastics. And misc. engine parts.

Wow sounds like u have some decent stuff on your hands, and the calipers look great!! Any pics of the rebuild/painting process? Keep going man!

So when I began rebuilding the head two of the screws on the cam bearing caps sheared same side # 2 and #3. Both on the exhaust side. Bought some helicoils, fixed it, and pressed on.

Then I was putting on the oil pump and a bolt sheared inside the block portion. I was thinking wtf! Checked the torque wrench and nope, my dial was on the money... Got that out.

As I was continuing to put on the front cover, the bolts weren't matching and all I could think was this is odd, needless to say, all the brackets took up a lot of the extra slack. This motor reminds me of Hannibal lecters mas.

Can't say it hasn't been rough, but its been s***ty!

Pressing on with the downward spiral, I went to tighten up my head bolts and the second one in torque sequence bottomed out about a 16th before it began tightening. So I had to clean the threads inside the block to get what looked like carbon soot out.

...and finally, the cherry on top was when I broke my friends 150lb rated torque wrench. completely sheared before 114lbs. What gets on my nerves is I had been doing this whole job with a POS calibration tool! C'mon! To remedy this I said the hell with this, and bought a Kobalt one at a local hardware store and what world of a difference. So I went back and checked the torque on the bolts, turns out the smaller ones needed less and the larger ones needed more, FML.

BTW I also broke a 3/8 breaker bar, 2 3/8 ratchets, 2 1/2" - 3/8" adapters. With no stripped bolts.

Ok, in all that I would say, the front cover bolts are all different and they have to go back exactly where they came from.

Other than that I agree with your wtf sentiment. Man that old motor just wasn't going to give up easily.

Holy broken tools batman! :o

Yes all the front timing cover bolts are diffrent..

Glad to see your not giving up after all this "WTF" mess. Keep it up mate!

That is odd. I've never seen a 22R-series oil pan that looked like that. It's as if there's a huge dent in it. Plus, the little skid plate thingy is missing.

It sure does. You think it has a later model engine in it? Or maybe somebody got some serious air and put the axle into the pan.

Yea it was definitely the axle. I beat it somewhat straight. I don't know what plate you're talking about. But here's the final product. Also I added an extra picture of my backup rides so you guys aren't too worried.

Dibbs on the Radio Flyer!

That still doesn't look like a factory pan to me. Best photo I can find of the 22R that was in my '84, you can sorta see the little plate thing on the sump, it was spot-welded on.

Is that real brick on the INSIDE of your garage? Never seen that.

Well that's its place. It just isn't running. My dd is my motorcycle. I do have a spare truck but don't have tags; since the PO never had the title... Long story. It is a an RE if that changes anything. Let the cannibalization begin.

I finally got all the loose ends tied up. The idle is non existent and when I rev it, it seems to run smoothly. In other words it won't stay on... I'm thinking it may be the fuel filter that War Damn Eagle had mentioned.
