I like how you put "rebuild". Yea I know it isn't anywhere near a big $$ engine but I gotta take it easy especially since its been a really long time. I'm not sining by putting it back together, rather giving it CPR. Thanks for the reminder about the heater core. I'm still really excited about all of this and for some reason, I don't feel overwhelmed at all. Maybe it's because I haven't tried starting it. I just barely took it to the machinist to fix the effed up #2 ex. The machinist said it will be ready tomorrow. My dad was talking about a copper sealer for the HG, can anyone elaborate?

"Copper sealer"? No clue. Is the machinist going to true the head while he is at it? If so, I would just pick up a good head gasket, oem or felpro, etc and put it back together.

Yea he is going to do the head and don't worry I got a head gasket kit by felpro. I was tempted to get one by victor reinz sold by Carquest and autozone. But it was more expensive and I have never heard of it, so I just said nah!

All i meant by "rebuild" was that its just not a total overhaul :D but thats good to know its coming along smooth, keep it up and posted!

No worries. I haven't got the head back and correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that if I did the valve job on all of them to seal them it would break the piston rings.

I got started on the brakes and wow for 2 reasons. 1. It had crud built up the thickness of my pinkie. 2. I was stoked to see that "the" truck has 4 piston caliper setup in front. Anyone know of an oem brake caliper that will bolt on to the rear.

Best way to clean?

Step 1: put those things back together
Step 2: take them down to NAPA, use them for cores for V6-era calipers
Step 3: grind dust shield to clear new caliper, install. Bleed.

It's your brakes, they're kinda important.

Are you saying they fail a lot? And would a 94 3vzfe style calipers work?

Never heard of that about the valves and piston rings? But as for the rear calipers, MKIII supras will work with a kit for the rear. I believe FROF sells one as well.

No they wont fail unless they are in really bad shape.. But yes, any 86-95 pickup or 4runner 3VZE IFS calipers will work, you just have to trim the dust sheld as mentioned. The V6er's have cooling fins on them and therefore stick out just a tad further than the stock 4cly models do.

88 was the first v6 year, not sure but I don't think the turbo 87 rigs had the bigger calipers. So 88-95 should do you. I also recommend NAPA, next to OEM they are my go to on parts and all 4 calipers on my 80 came from there.

They dont have to be off of a 4runner, as long as they are V6 with all 4 same sized pistons they will work. And yes thanks for catching that.. I always forget that the runners didnt get the V6 until 88..

So ill be getting the calipers from the Toyota 4x4 salvage yard. As far as the MKIII calipers, I'm going to see if I can find them elsewhere. Is there any trucks it will come off of? Here is where I go shopping to make me feel better about myself.

Hmm dont know of any truck calipers that will work on the rear..? But its looking good do far man! Keep it up.

Where is that gold mine of dead toyota trucks?!? I would go there quite often :D

75 Ballard Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC. I decided to have all the valves done, it's the best time to take care of it. Also, to keep the cost down I'm going to wait on the calipers. I know I'm being a _____, but with time I can get other things/ upgrades. Just don't keep any ideas to yourselves because its only a matter of time.

Yeah i would have the valves done now as well. But nahh im somwhat of a cheap @$$ as well when it comes to certain things.

So you may be modding it a bit? Does that meen your keeping it or is it still going to your father?

Well we already had this talk with my dad and he said he really doesn't care since he has a heap rubicon and a yota mini truck (completely hooked up), problem is that it's in pieces and I told him that he could have the 4runner if he finished putting it together. He said he would years ago and I don't think he liked my proposal. But he's not mad or upset because its in the family it's more of his hoarding problem than anything else.

Finally, the head is back and it looks fresh. I'm just wondering it it looks right... Seems to me like the man took too much off of the valves to seal them. Well unfortunately I won't have time today to get started. But I will tomorrow, and its gonna be good.
