Just picked this up yesterday and I am a very happy camper. I have to rebuild the motor but I think if it lasts me till the beginning of next year I will be ready for a drop in.

Nice find. Adoptions are always such happy times....

Specs? Looks pretty stock, year?

It's an 85 with a dead 22re. I found it at the Toyota junk yard in fuquay-Varina, NC it's called holland automotive... They also have an fj 40 for adoption but it's in rough shape, the axle was bent on it...

Nice find! Finding an ummolested 85 is getting harder and harder.. And if you do they are priced as if they are made of gold. What are your plans after the rebuild?

I got it for 1500 with 413 on the odometer. I actually bought it because my dad asked me to get it; he's in California. Well I'm gonna fix it for him and have it running by the time I ship it off in January. After all he gave me my fj40 for free with a front locker and a snorkel. But I'm gonna enjoy it while I have it. (the 4runner)

Here's some progress pics... Ive never done this to a 22re, but I have to a 3tc. Everything looks good, compression was over 140 except for the #2 cylinder.

75 which is where my dad believes it is leaking from the head gasket. I took a look inside from the spark plug hole and it seems to have some surface rust and an outline of where the piston stayed for the longest. The good news is that I put on a missing duct that goes to the air filter and it started up and stayed on!

Yeah most likley HG. Considering the rust on the cly walls and low compression on #2. Were there any other signs of HG failure? Milky oil, oil in coolant, smoke blowing ect? But thats really cool that it started up and stayed! Lol thats a 22R-E for ya :D

Yea I got about half a qt to 1 in just coolant in the oil pan the radiator is gonna be sent off to get cleaned out because there was oil in there too. Gonna change the water pump and thermostat when I get around to it.

I found a rogue vacuum line on the left side of the engine (working from the front to rear) and its got a filter/ valve do you know what it is or where it goes?

Well then its def. HG by the looks of that! And hmm can you post a pic of it? If you hadnt said vacuum line i would suggest fuel filter. The passenger side of that engine bay is where it gets "kinky".. Unless your talking about the charcoal canister on the PAIR system (emissions). Then idk, if u had a pic if it i would most likley be if more help. Or atleast describe it a little more in depth.

Kinky huh, I like kinky! You can see it in the engine pics, if I'm not mistaken. It's brown and tan. Well if it were a fuel filter it wouldn't have started... But its in-line about an inch long and a cylindrical shape.

Lol good point. And yes, if its what i think your describing, the only thing in the engine bay pics that fits your description is emmisions related. Not sure exactly what it is bc my 94 22R-E does not have it. Did u remove the charcoal canister? Or did it not have one?

I haven't looked for it but no I haven't removed it... Turns out I'm being kidnapped to go grocery shopping, this is BS!

You would defently know if you had it its a decent size lol and its right in the area that you were talking about. As for grocery shopping. Your right, THAT IS JUST BS :D

No that's still there, I got to pull off all of the wiring today and labeled it... I found some random wires which I believe they might go to the sr5 model. The cylinder is in the bottom right and the charcoal canister is in the background. Since then it has been removed from its bracket and is laying on the fender...

Nice work, and yes if it is not SR5 model then there will be some floating connections coming from the harness. Im still stumped as to what that little filter thing is exactly?!?
