Thanks G. That WAS really good info as @Prairie Swamp said. You cleared up some questions that had formed in the last day fromreading and watching a few brake/hub videos. As well as hitting the nail on the sources of studs and variances. Prices really do vary a ton too.
 
You *might* be able to find a used 12 or 20 ton press on Craigslist, etc for 50 shekels -- They come in handy to have around.

I had watched a diy to make the bottle jack into a press but that doesn’t come close to 20.
 
no nice garages near you that will do that for you cheaply?

I did that for mine because just didn't want to waste time when i replaced rotors and studs.....

If you don't want to take up real estate with a press, any machine shop, brake shop, some mom 'n pop auto parts places remove and replace the rotor on your hubs for cheap and in like 10 mins. They will have foot-operated press and all the necessary bits to do it fast.

It's not worth fawking around making a redneck press that could damage your new expensive stuff :D. Just my HO.
 
Oh yeah I get all that. I promise I won’t be a total jackass. Plenty of places near me. I’m just covering all my bases. Never really said I’d install them myself.

they can be a pain if not done with the right tools....don't want a lug nut or more deciding to go on vacation because something is loose....

Funny how to us, that’s really an equivalent of a woman’s fancy pair of heels. But seriously that right there is way out of my budget. It’s sure is pretty tho.
 
I’ve done fronts and just recently rebuilt my drums. All new parts via rockauto. Don’t think you need any really special tools and may end up saving enough to justify newer parts if you went and hadn’t someone just press the new front rotors on. With all the $ I spent on new brakes, the best was the $30 for a used t100 brake booster. Could’ve been that my old one wasn’t working at all but with it the truck stops much better.
 
No Need for a press for the disc/hub studs. Support the disc well on a few wide pieces of wood. (4x4 is ideal but 2x4 is fine)

PUT ON SAFETY GLASSES!!!! If your hammer is made of crappy metal you could get metal shards flying around. If you know your hammers suck, get better ones...

Use a ball peen hammer and rest the ball on the curved top of the stud. (Put a regular nut on the stud for added protection if you want)
Take a second hammer and give the ball peen hammer a good solid whack and the stud should pop right out.

To get them back in, same process in reverse- just line the splines up if you can, before the hammer blow...
 
I fitted Hilux callipers on mine, I reckon they give about 25% more surface area and have significantly improved braking performance. In the UK it's callipers from the mark 4 or 5, not sure what the equivalent would be in the US but it's late 90s to early 2000s

I did this as well. For the ones you could not hit directly due to depth, I used a punch. Just make sure they are flush when your done.
I did not have a press and was not about to buy one just for this project. I have done it this way before on various 4x4's and even a Honda.
Mine are far from loose.

Yes the press in press out is the absolutely correct way to do this. Just not the only way. In the bush, access to a press = a large rock.
 
Thanks for the input! It’s good to know that doingit that way has worked for some w/o any negative issues.
