i totally love mine. granted, it came on the cruiser when i bought it so i dont have much to compare to, but i also bought this one because it drove so much better than the other ones i test drove. I'm in provo if you'd like to come test drive mine to get a feel for how it rides. pm me if you're interested.

To OP, FWIW, I had 3" lift on my 80 w/castor correction. Ride is firm but I didn't find it harsh. I also drive a Porsche and am used to a firm ride. Both vehicles are purpose built.

My cousin did the low lift on his 80 and was extremely pleased with the results--no castor correction needed.

I might like to try yours out. I also might ask Mr. Brownjeans if i can test drive his LX450 which seems to have OME springs and shocks and 2" lift. He's a friend of mine, but lives way north of us.

sounds good, just let me know! i'll be gone this weekend but after that i'm free.

Steering seems a little vague on my '94.

Changing the damper won't make any difference with that. Unless the Toyota damper is leaking or damaged, it's really not worth the trouble of changing it IMO.

If the steering is vague, check the adjustment screw on the steering box. It can be tightened, which might just help with the vague steering. Info is in the FAQ zone IIRC or try Search.

BTW, lots of nice green trucks in this thread.:D

Good to know. I will search, and consult the FSM.

Green 80's are ok but i like my white one:

Also, it's possible that it feels vague because I've gone from 225/45-R17 to 265/75-R16.

I've been running the OME Stock Height kit with OME shocks and steering stabilizer on my 80 for over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. It doesn't feel like I'm driving a boat anymore and the truck sits a lot nicer now. I like white ones too!
Good luck with your decision.

What kind of tires are you running? Your truck looks good.

Hi guster,
They're the BFG KM2 255/85R16 skinnies in my sig line. I've run BFGs since they came out with the first radial AT back in the 70s, moving onto the radial MT when they became available. The KM2 is the best of both, I'm really happy with its performance.

They look good, too. Of course that pic was taken when they were fresh on the truck, so they should look pretty buff.:)

Sorry to Hijack!

Greentruck, I have some bald Dueller Revo's that need replaced after this winter. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade my suspension from OME stock height to a OME 2.5" lift. We shall see, as my stock height OME suspension is a little harsh. I suspect that it is the heavy version. I am leaning toward the BFG's, but am also considering Coopers. I have heard that the BFG's aren't the greatest in snow? That is a big concern since I live in Utah, and the 80 is my ski vehicle.

I've not had the opportunity to run what I consider a good trail test, although have messed around in the dirt a little. As far as snow goes, the KM2 does great and I've had more than enough of that in various forms that I can say I'm satisfied with that.

Ice is where people always complained with the radial MTs. Yep, they could be tricky, but so could any mud tire, so I didn't see it as anything beyond the normal issues of trying to deal with ice. The compound used with the KM2 is softer at low temps, seems that way to me in any case, and its performance on ice is noticeably improved vs the old MT. Realistically, having spent lots of time driving on ice, is that except for specialized studded snow tires you're better off just driving carefully, rather than hoping any tire will get you down a road like that 10 or 20 mph faster.

One thing that helps with both snow and ice is that there is less void space in the tread. In fact, the KM2 is like a cross between the MT and a normal AT tread.

Don't buy KM2's for your intended use unless you have a good life insurance plan.

Thanks for the response! Currently I have dedicated studs, which are hard to beat. Hopefully I will be able to get another set of those. That would be optimal, and then run the KM2's during the spring, summer and fall months. Or possible go with some BFG AT KO's. I think those would be more acceptable and safe to run year round.

I had Duratrac's two winters ago and they were amazing for ski trips, ran the KM2's last winter and they were so bad I wouldn't even take the truck up in the mountains, and now I am back on Duratrac's for this winter.

KM2's are great for everything but winter time in my opinion.

Me & Brownjeans had lunch on Friday. He brought his LX450. Didn't seem harsh to me. I look forward to test driving the OME springs & tokiko shocks combo though.

I have the OME stock height with Bilsteins and the ride unloaded is great. With the RTT, my Sean fab rear bumper with dual swingouts, and my ARB fridge it bottoms out pretty easy. I'm going to try the 30mm spacers and see if that helps. Other than that it's pretty awesome.

I put the stock height kit and OME shocks on mine and am very happy with it. I gained over an inch from the old suspension and I like the look, not to mention the ride is awesome !
I am still running 31s but will go to 33s when they wear out even though it will bog down the old 3FE a bit.
I might even change springs to the 2" lift since the shocks will still work with them.
