I acquired an ‘82 60 series recently. Fair amount of rust, but engine and driveline seem strong. Thinking of putting the 2F,4 speed and 3:70 pumpkins into Coyote. Current set up is 1F 3 speed and 4:10 gears. Not really planning on any serious off-roading.Would this get me enough mpg increase to make it worthwhile?

Gas mileage may improve but the biggest improvement would be in driveablity with the four speed, higher highway speeds with the 3.70 ratio and updated engine w/better oiling. Believe the axles may also be a bit wider. If so, slightly better handling.

As Riderjgs stated the axles are a few inches wider, so you have to offset the spring hangers or relocate the spring pads on the housings.

Was planning on swapping third members from 60 to the 55 axles.

The increased popularity of the 60 series makes me reluctant to part the 82 out. My 40 trail rig I took in trade has been for sale since I got it in 2014. Never any takers or interest. Dropped the price several times. Today a local land cruiser guy calls wanting to look at red’s axles. Decides he wants the whole rig, but wants to trade parts for the rig. Has a 5 speed, engine/t-case 3:70 third members and parts to get the 60 back on the road to trade. I’m inclined to jump on this. Thoughts?

You will no doubt have a better all-round rig and less work with the 60, especially with the 5-speed. What you won't have is a 55, a much rarer bird. Depends on how you value some measure of exclusivity. You'll see yourself coming and going with a 60.

The 5 speed, engine etc are for the 55. Also included are the parts to get the 60 roadworthy to sell down the line. My 2 55’s are here to stay.

Yes an H55 and split case. Offering a 3FE or 2 f.

Worked a deal today. 2F, H55F,t-case and 3:70’s for Coyote. Tail gate and gas tank for the 60. Happy to get rid of the trail rig.

We’re both smiling. He’s got a pretty sweet HJ60 and a 45 that’s diesel.

The 2F motor I got has a GM distributorless configuration. Current PO says it works, but not completely correct. My question is will a 1F distributor work in a 2F engine?

Current set up on 2F

Absolutely yes. A '69ish vacuum advance distributor works very nicely. As will the FJ60 big body distributor

Sounds like you traded up. But you shoulda gone for the 3fe!

Didn’t want any computer stuff.

Boo, fuel injection was probably the best upgrade i did. I got to sit behind all the stock pigs getting vapor lock at 12000 feet elevation.
