I'm pretty sure that was just somebody's attempt at blocking the identity of the rider. See Al's post of the original jetski rider.

So it got in there because it was trying to drive around another vehicle on a sand bar down river and the boat trailer it was pulling slipped, got caught in the current and pulled the cruiser in also.

One of the local guys is someone working on the case now.
