Looks like I’ve got a big ass raccoon living in my attic. Anyone got any suggestions? I’m a nice guy. Don’t have the heart to kill it. And she’s likely got some babies too.

We have a Havaheart trap at work you can borrow James. They’re pretty easy to catch with some dog food as bait.

Cool. Thanks. The key is there’s likely babies. Wanna be sure they’re all taken together. And not culled.

Here’s a thought then. You trap the mother humanely in the Havaheart and release her in a dewy meadow. Then fix the exterior entry point which she gained access. We then reuse the Havaheart to humanely trap a small predator like a bobcat or a fox. Then we release said predator through an interior attic access point. The predator will “dispose” of the raccoon kits and with no other access to food and water will die quietly in your attic. Then it’s only a matter of months before the smell goes away. Problem solved.

Seriously though I would just give one of the folks @jfz80 mentioned a call

I had to catch a raccoon in one of our chimneys a few years ago. I checked out the professionals but they all wanted $250+ so a $50 Havaheart like Steve mentioned from Amazon was the easy choice. It was a big male and no babies to deal with so a little different scenario. Went through several bait options and a few accidental catches of possums until I got him. Marshmallows proved to be the ticket. Took him a local park and let him go.

Well, I knew a guy in Berkeley who installed a pet door and started putting out cat food in the kitchen.
The raccoons would come and go as they pleased. It was pretty neat except you couldn't go near the kitchen while the raccoons were about.
Good luck.

Sounds like you have a nice little business opportunity there, @jamesurq .

We dealt with a raccoon family in our chimney. If the kits are old enough to walk, they will follow the mom. And will just stay outside the trap if she goes in.

First our guy tried to use a slip knot to pull the raccoons up from the comment. But the damn little cute trash pandas untied his knot.

Mandatory evacuations in Old Fort and Marion NC. There has already been a mud slide that has closed part of 40 and they are worries about a damn letting go up there.

McDowell County

Get this app Ready NC, I find the Flood Gauge info and Evacuations the most useful. Works well

@40LandCruising I just noticed your sig line says you (temporarily) put 15" rims on your '94. I know they're not actual 15" 80 rims, but are your front calipers still OK? Legend has it that the OEM 15's won't clear the calipers, so I'm guessing that the ones you used have a backspacing that allows it or you're running large spacers.

This is kind of a long shot, but is anyone in the market for an adjustable-height 10' span gantry crane? Reason I'm asking is because I want to build one for myself, but the steel supply places I've found only sell full lengths, meaning I'll have enough steel to produce two gantry cranes if I buy new. Would be looking to split cost of the steel, which looks like it's going to be around $1900 total.

I am using plans from this pirate thread, calcs suggest 4.5t rating with a factor of safety of ~3. I've rendered in sketchup as well.

If you're interested, reach out to me! Looking to build soon, intend to use it to break down a parts truck.

Person in the render is 5'10". This is full height of the gantry crane, a little bit over 11' depending on the casters used.

You may get more positive interest if you have various large chunks of cow, pig, more cow, more pig, and who knows what else hanging from the gantry in your drawing

Are the casters to move the gantry loaded or empty? Most of the ones I have seen in mfg plants are for moving it empty, and they swivel out of the way when loaded and the legs support direct to ground.
