Driveshafts were completely taken apart, sandblasted, cleaned all the old grease out and then replaced all the grease zerks, end plugs, u-joints and painted.

I have been working on a couple things lately that are still in progress. Stripping all the sheet metal parts and seats to go out to the sandblaster so I can start body work. I have a growing pile of stuff that is almost ready to be sent out.

I also decided to "dress up" the 2F a little. I love the look of the old F engine, so I decided to use as much of the F engine components as I can. So I have test fit the air cleaner housing, it will need a little modification but will look great; also the old tall F valve cover will need an oil cap welded in. I think this will give the engine a good period correct look, even thought its 20 years newer then the rest of the truck, and most cruiser folks won't even notice that its a 2F.

1. You rule
2. What tires are you running?

I wish I could get ahold of taillight backings that look that good.

Thanks,

Tires are BFG all terrain, size 215/75R15.

The taillight backers are in perfect shape, I was surprised how well they came out. I cleaned them up with some castrol purple cleaner and then used some mothers back to black to bring back the color.

Not much progress, but more stuff done. I finished stripping all of the sheet metal for the sand blaster, removed all glass and weatherstripping and separated everything I could. Found a little unexpected rust underneath the fiberglass cap:

Your frame looks sweet, – before you PC over the Galvanized did you have to sand it much ? and does the PC adhere to the Galvanized well? Keep going as I’m running out of things to read.

I had to sand and file some of the high spots out of the galvanize, and I also drilled out all of the holes as most had been partially closed by the galvanizing.

The powder coating seems to adhere pretty well, I have not had any issues with it peeling or cracking; but it hasn't been used yet either. A lot of the stuff I read said that galvanize with PC over the top may be the best corrosion protection system out there.

I have made quite a bit of progress on the project as well, just need to get a minute to post some pics and explain whats happening. Should see an update soon.

So lots of progress, just not much exciting stuff. I have been working on the paint and body work for about a month now. I have to admit, I am a nut and bolt guy and love the mechanical stuff, this paint stuff has been a lot different but I am trying to learn as I go.

Everything was sandblasted and epoxy primed before any body work was started. I am using southern polyurethanes epoxy primer and been very happy with it.

The plan is epoxy prime, body work, another coat of epoxy primer, 2k high build primer from southern polyurethanes, block sand, epoxy sealer coat and top coating with PPG concept in the original Olympus white. Decided on a single stage paint as well, to keep it a little simpler and that is what it had from the factory in 1967.

So a couple pics:

Once the front end is painted I plan to tackle the tub, I have a couple holes that are not correct in the dash, and a couple small spots of rust, but nothing too bad.

If things go well this weekend, I hope to have both front fenders, hood and front doors in color. Should be able to post pics next week of some more olympus white stuff.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I am just trying to do this the right way; and have taken lots of tips/pointers from many of the other great build up threads. Just hoping that I can provide a little help to someone else in the process. Also, I wish the double seal was my idea because it is a great one; but I am just copying something I saw someone else do on mud in the past.

So this weekend was pretty successful. So far the front end is now all in color, finished painting the front fenders, hood, both front doors, aprons, bib and bezel. Out of town this week, but hope to get the hard top sides and windshield frame in color week after next then start on the tub. I had been fighting some minor orange peel with the topcoat as well, but I think I finally got the gun adjustment and paint speed correct to get some really good paint on the fenders.

A couple pics of the past weeks progress:

Looking very nice Will. I'll let Sam drive my 40 again and maybe I'll have another excuse to come check out the project.
