I have had this project for a few weeks, so its about time I start a thread. I have learned a bunch from lurking here for many years and guess its time I try and hopefully give a little back.
So a little history of the truck. I was a technician at a Toyota dealer a few years ago; working almost exclusively on Land Cruisers for the last 3-5 years. I rebuilt an engine for a customer of mine who was restoring a 1967 FJ40. It was one of the cleanest engines I had ever built and the owner basically said, make it perfect, no expenses spared. Fast forward a few years and he lost interest in the restore while its still in pieces. He got a hold of me and offered to sell everything he had to me. He had a boatload of new parts, many from the dealer, and a bunch from SOR and others. It was also a very clean almost rust free body. The only problem is that it was in about as many pieces as a cruiser could be. So after looking at, I decided to jump in and put it back together.
So I am starting with a 1967, in pieces with some parts already done, many more parts that need to be rebuilt, painted and/or installed. The PO was replacing all the fasteners with stainless steel, and had the frame and a bunch of other pieces galvanized.
On to a few pics and then the progress I have made so far.
Pic 1- The super clean 2F, this was removed from a 1984 FJ60 and then rebuilt with 100% OEM parts including all the bearings, rings, pistons and seals; and a brand new carburetor. This is the only thing that will not be stock to the truck. I am going to see what I can do to make it "look" a little more period correct. I am going to try and use the original air cleaner and valve cover from the original F; which is blown but was included with the truck.
Pic 2- The rolling chassis as I picked it up. The axles are almost finished up, there are no brake parts in the right front wheel, no hubs installed (have the period correct Warn hubs to restore and install) and the rear pinion seal needs to be replaced.
Pic 3- The body as I picked it up. Some minimal rust; but about as good as I have ever seen for a truck this old.
