Tell me more about your epoxy resin. Roll on or spray on? Where did you get it? Same stuff as fiberglass resin?

It's looking good!

What the Truck?

I used the West Systems 105/205 epoxy resin. It was recommended by a fiberglass guy and multiple online sources. Its a two part system, resin and hardener, and I brushed it on; it is pretty thick so I don't think you could spray it. It begins to harden in about 10 minutes depending on temperature; so you mix a little, brush on and then mix more as you go. I bought one quart and it was barely enough to do one medium/heavy coat on the top. I am using epoxy primer and the resin and primer are supposed to bond very well to each other. I was basically trying to strengthen/seal the fiberglass and fill in some very minor spider cracking.

I am hoping to be priming and top coating this weekend so I will let you know how it works out.

Fabulous work, Will. Looking absolutely wonderful!

Its been a whirlwind couple of weeks, I have pretty much been at work, or in the garage working on the truck and not much of anything else; but I have a lot to show for it.

First, the rear hatch is finished up. I struggled a bit to get it straight, but a good friend of mine helped me out and it looks great now. I put bostonmangler's brass bushings on the hinges as well to increase the durability a bit.

A couple pics of the hatch work and hinge's:

Also, after way too much sanding, priming, sanding and more sanding the top is finally in paint as well. I debated what color to go with for the top and bezel, I was considering olympus white body color, shell ivory and a brighter white. I ended up going with Toyota code 040 super white. It is a very bright white, and I am really glad I did, the bezel really pops from the front of the truck and just looks like a classic Land Cruiser should. The top will be buffed/polished tonight, install the headliner and then I hope to get the top bolted on tonight as well.

A couple pictures of the top in progress, completed and the bezel:

Last update for now, I am basically done under the hood as well. I added a coolant overflow bottle from and FJ60, I know its not stock but I hate the idea of anything leaking from this truck; and at least it looks stock. I also added a couple decals under the hood.

Next on the list is to finish the rear wire harness and a whole lot of buffing and polishing. I hope to have some higher quality pictures of the complete truck in the next couple days and will post them up when I have them. Thanks for all the compliments!

This isn't even right. Better than right off the showroom! Congrats on a beautiful rig.

Well, the truck is basically done now. Still a couple small things to finish up but basically its all done. Still need to buff the paint out, and refurb the stock jack among other things.

I had the chance to have some professional photos taken last weekend, and I think the truck turned out pretty darn nice.

A few thanks are in order as well. Its been on my bucket list for a while to "restore" an old FJ40, and this is exactly how I wanted it to turn out. I couldn't have done it without the help of many on this forum and a few local guys as well. If you guys haven't purchased anything from aatlas1x, coolerman, or cruiseroutfitters you are missing out; these guys were top notch and provided excellent products in a timely manner. My local Toyota dealer, Toyota Bountiful and Brad in their parts department was always helpful getting me the OEM stuff I needed. I know I am missing many people as I was constantly browsing threads and trying to find tips and tricks on how to get this truck done the right way, I literally don't think I could have done this without the mud community.

Now onto where this truck is going. Although I have always wanted to restore an FJ40, I knew when I bought this truck that I wasn't going to keep it. I am just not at a point in my life to have something like this around. Its just too nice to drive and I would be afraid of what happens every time the kids step in the garage to get a bike or toy out. After a lot of research and some tough decisions I have decided to sell it at the Russo and Steele auction in Scottsdale, AZ. It will sell sometime between January 16-21; it actually kills two birds with one stone because I have always wanted to sell a car at a big collector car auction. The truck is listed here if you are interested: Russo and Steele Ad

It will be interesting to see what happens and no matter what I had a great time building it and have no doubt it will not be my last.

So, thanks again to the mud community as whole!
