Eagles eyes Dan. Thought the same. It was Magnafluxed and was good.

We have just spoken to Andre’s friend named Vagner who has known Andre since he was fifteen and over the 5 minute conversation we had with him he told us Old Landy was in DALLAS before going up to Alaska! We plan on meeting him this following weekend to talk to him and take him to the barn. What a small world indeed!!! 😲

I have forgotten to update y’all on the axle buissness, but last week we recieved the 70’ axle from @bdyer12! Thanks to @dogfishlake to bringing it down on his trip done here! We took the axle to the barn that same weekend and dropped it off. Just a refresher on the plan we think we are converting the front axle drum brake components on Old Landy to disc brake, and then the 70’ axle in the back.

Negotiated for ga$ for mudshipping that is. He settled for a clean bed, sausage/ potatoes dinner, huevos rancheros for bkfast, chicken and waffles for lunch and some brewskis. He definitely had more in calories than $. The comraderie...priceless.

Buddy and I had a great time! Glad I made the visit part of my road trip.

Gotta love chicken and waffles!

Vagner has known Andre since he was 15 years old. They have been best friends. Vagner will definitely fill in the gaps we have in the story of Old Landy in the US. Our brief chat revealed that Old Landy entered the US in Norfolk, VA. Vagner is still super stoked about Old Landy. He was at a loss for words describing how amazing these rigs are and how they shape lives by taking us to unforgettable memories. Vagner is an avid motorcycle overlander. He plans to get another of his overlander cyclist friends (who also knows Old Landy) in Dallas to make a trip to the barn. Vagner says he has so much to tell us. I wish I was a paralegal trained in short hand. Then again, we could just make a YouTube video. Doh!!

We might try to FaceTime Andre as well.

Stay tuned.

Andre has more than deserved to meet his creator at any time. I sense his bucket list is complete. I think he just wants to see it. At any stage. Cosmetics is not going to change that.

We have several parallel projects moving in addition to a small thing we call LIFE. Yikes!!!

Wife’s 40, older son’s Mustang, and Old Landy’s drive train rebuild. Waiting for summer to kick in when we will sand blast old Landy and get movin on it. We hope to get drive train ready in the interim. Engine long block teardown is in progress.

With 3 kids, 2 in high school I know all too well about time or lack there of. Between sports, choir, 4H, youth group, FFA, school and 10 acres with a few animals...we have A LOT going on. I had to pick my time wisely and spent lots of 30 minute chunks before work at 5:30am to get stuff done. I still have tons I want to get done.

But I agree with @CaptClose I'm ready for updates.

Barn is an hour away. Challenge heard and accepted. Thanks for the prod 😉

Come on CD... you’re the only guy I know that has an entire family full of gear heads. You should be churning out a cruiser every month! 🤣

Just kidding buddy... I just wanted to revive the thread before it starting getting stale.

One of the reasons it took me so long to get out of my garage and into my workshop was that I wanted a space close to home. To be able to just walk to the shop in the evening and just prepare something or clean up from last time makes it so much better for me.

Dang, yeah I agree completely with @CaptClose and @lazylfarm it has been quite a long time since we have updated the thread and that is mostly because we just don't have enough time. Bust school schedule am I right *sigh* :bang:! We should be able to get out to there to the barn this summer like my dad mentioned above. The plan is to get the 2H on an engine stand and continue with the rebuild before the turbo gets put on. Then once that is done we will start piecing the new drive train together with the 5 speed, split case, and 2HT. We also plan to remove the H engine, 4 speed, and e-brake transfer out of Old Landy and then try to see how everything aligns. As of the axles I am not entirely sure if we are switching just the drum components out of the front axle and replacing them with the disc components so we can keep the axle housing galvanized or if we are switching out the axle out itself (depends if the components work). Then we might be switching the rear 40 series drum for the 70 series drum, not entirely sure if that is just components or the axle itself. Before I forget we are also switching the 3rd members to 4:11. :geek:

Nice write up @Cowboy45. You speak a da Cruiser language! Bellisimo Bambino!!

Good plan. Summer can't be much more than 6 weeks away.

I would go to disc brakes all around if the budget allows, but for sure the front.

My engine build was the same thing. Mine was in the machine shop for awhile, although 3.5 weeks of that was waiting a couple of times to get the right CAM bearings. Issues always pop up even when we thing we have it all figured out.

I would have liked to do the tranny/transfercase rebuild at the same time, but decided to just get it running as to not have too many irons in the fire. You are starting over and I think it's a good plan to do it all while you have it out. Hindsight, I probably should have just pulled it, although it shifts/drives fine and doesn't appear to leak.

You definitely want that turbo lol. I had an HJ45 for a short while, and while it needed tuned to run it's best, it was SLOOOW. The BJ74 is a straight up rocked compared to that.

I think disc brakes all around are definitely a good idea, but we wanted to do drum brakes in the back because we won' t have an e-brake transfer so we are thinking that having a huge 70' series drum would be a pretty good hand brake/ quote on quote "e-brake".

We still haven't checked the the CAM bearings to see if they are within spec, but I will take your advice and check them. Do the CAM bearings typically go bad?

Yeah the plan is to get everything ready one at a time, because first of all I won't be able to drive this till I am 15 so there is a lot of time to do this and then we also want to learn the process so I think I would gather more information if we did it slowly.

Haha my dad was saying the same thing too. The 2H is pretty slow as is and since we live in Dallas it would be a lot easier to get to highway speeds with a turbo on the 2H. Also just a little add on the, reason we are going diesel is because it gets LOADS better gas mileage, it has the torque of a tank, and it can pretty much run on old fryer oil so if I end up running out of gas I can just walk to McDonald's for some good old frying oil .

The brakes on my BJ74 are pretty good with disc/drum so there is nothing wrong with that setup.

CAM bearings just wear just like crank bearings. They have a material that wears out. If you are doing all the other bearings, I would just replace the CAM bearing, especially if you had the CAM reground.

Build it right and it will treat you good for a long time.

I definitely prefer diesel over gassers. Love the torque you get out of them. Turbo is a necessity on diesel IMO. the 13BT I have is pretty peppy but it's no powerhouse. I couldn't imagine it without a turbo. I'm already to turn the boost up a little. Those old 2H will pretty much run on anything semi flammable lol.
