Did you grab this truck Crusher? If you did let me know if I can take some of the interior pieces off your hands or will you be using it for a RHD to LHD conversion? If you didn't maybe I will be fortunate enough to make a drive to Canada for some parts.

setting up to pick it up on sunday if Mike is around...
once i get it back here i will make some decisions, nothing before that.

Good for you, at least it is going to a good cruiser home. Let me know if you want to sell some of the interior parts and I'll even pop for some:beer: at you favorite watering hole...

Believe me when I say I really want a Cruiser, but it was just too much for me to repair.:frown: I have no garage and the young kids keep me busy! I will have to keep modifying and wheeling my daily driver 08 Tacoma.
I am glad it’s going to a good home also, as I couldn't drive past it on the way to work watching it rust out more.
Mike

so...
went and picked it up today, tires held air, no brakes, no clutch, winched it up onto the trailer and chewed the fat for a bit. nice guys, no doubt there at all.
brought it home, backed the trailer to infront of the garage door, hooked the winch up to lower it slowly down the ramp into the garage
but
the hook wasn't attached properly and fell off, the truck rolled out of control down the ramp and wedge against the side of the door frame. WHEW, that was close.
straightened the tires and went to roll it more when Mitch asked me to come take a look at the back tire, it was on by 2"... no biggie lets get it into the garage.
once inside, the smell of mouse s*** was over whelming. it made me want to puke. what the fawk did i just buy?
we stuck batteries in and cranked it over, okay, starter still working, pulled the fuel filter, drained the varsol out and filled with seafoam and reinstalled (no new filter on hand), ran a line to a jerry can and hit the glow plugs, cracked the injector lines and started cranking closing each one as the fuel started spurting.
all lines tight, hit the glows again and crank crank sputter crank crank sputter sputter crank run die crank sputter run at idle.
shut down drain oil and change filter, sounds like it is going to run.
crank crank sputter run idle idle idle die crank sputter run and stayed idling. 3+ years sitting in a farmer field and it runs. damn, should have seen Mitch's face. happy boy.
warm up, do compression test
460 500
switch compression testers
same
460 500 460 480
so either the engine has had work or there is a lot of carbon inside
no black smoke, idles fine, starts well, idles well

tomorrow we start stipping the truck down.

maybe i did get the money's worth then... time will tell.

Just goes to show you that looks can be deceiving. With how she looked under the hood I would have bet that she wouldn't run. I'm sure if this was a 1FZ-FE rather than a diesel all of the electrics would have been so corroded that she wouldn't run. Love the simplicity of a diesel. Wish we got more of them in the US.

agreed, it looked like a pile of rust but only lost 2 bolts doing a compression test.
tomorrow will be "interesting" once the stripping starts. i want it off to the scrap pile by tomorrow night.

If you're looking to recover your money I know of someone who could use some interior pieces... Did I see on another thread that you ordered some 9.00x16 STA tires? I know these are bias tires, but I think they are going to be perfect in the snow and for that tall and skinny old school look.

yap, those tires are going on the troopy build, i will be picking them up next weekend.
as for the interior, i know you are looking. not sure what is happening just yet. with the RHD concerns i might be using them to convert the red ragtop over to LHD.
or
i might just say screw it and move to the States.

...
We have a fairly tough entry exam and you will be required to have multiple personal references ( so you might want to be nice ):)

so you want to buy a BJ70 from Ontario that has been driven in the winter??
when buying a cruiser from Ontario further east MAKE SURE you have it inspected by someone you can trust ESPECIALLY if it has been "restored".
and
here is why:
PTO latch 005.jpg
PTO latch 008.jpg
PTO latch 015.jpg

the bottom shows the seat belt rusted to the mount that was no longer mounted in the floor.

not yet, got the body stripped but the drivetrain is still in the frame.
all the good parts fit into one box.

dust masks to keep the mouse crap out was a must and the wasp nests, they were in EVERY nook and crany, glad it wasn't middle of summer!!
