Good Evening everyone and, as the title says, it seems I have just bought a 1977 FJ45...
2F, H41, 4.11s and extractors, 60 series front axle and Power Steering and on LPG, for the massive sum of $2500
I saw the ad up on Gumtree today, rang the bloke and went and had a look at her, and then bought it home. Looks to be pretty clean, with a couple of spots of bog and a bit of surface rust. Apparently its got 2" suspension lift and 2" body lift.
Plans:
Get tail lights working and indicators in their proper places
Get side mirrors
General service and tune. It pulls very strongly when you floor it, but misses a bit on idle, and quite a bit on part throttle cruising. It will not run on petrol for some reason, so that needs to be fixed, and I would like to ditch the gas system.
Fix the strong petrol smell in the cab
New ignition barrel, because the one in it is a bit iffy
Perhaps ditch the high performance coil
New exhaust
New tyres
Remove the body lift and get new springs, shocks and bushes under it
Tidy up the paint
and, because everything needs pictures...

Looks in a great condition! Was the bed standard like that? I have never seen a FJ45 one like that but know on the aus 70 series ute they also have the collapsable bin unlike the SA spec that has a fixed side bin

The tray is just a fairly standard alloy tray, I don't know if its factory or not, someone here should know.

Just finalizing an order for some goodies, and trying to work out what year this actually is so I get the right grille emblem and indicators. It has the 30 amp ammeter gauge, fuel tank under the seat and round bezel. The firewall plate says its a 77, the seller thought it was a 74, but it has a 2F and H41 in it and he says neither he or his friend that owned her before him dropped the 2F in. What do people think?

Do I need the early rectangular indicators or the later square indicator/parkers and also, the early or the late badges?
Would appreciate any guidance here...

Oh, and one more thing, it does not have the quarter windows on the door glass - just a single sheet of glass.

Hi
Nice one.
Good to see another Aussie 40 owner on this site.
Wonder why the PO put the turn indicators on the bumper Bar?
Cheers

Yeah, I have no idea why they did that, but I have some OEM indicators coming...

Right, the ordering has started...
I have got the following coming:
Side mirrors
A new Aisan replica carburettor from Procarb Australia (would have got a Trollhole, but he is out of stock.
And, in a package from Cruiser Corps:
a HUI HEI dissy
Spark plug wires
OEM indicators
OEM Toyota Badge and Land Cruiser Badges
Stainless steel bonnet and windscreen hooks

Once I get it not trying to run on petrol and lpg at the same time and not idling about 1300 rpm even though the idle speed screw is backed right out, I will...

Very nice 45, and I love the tray! I was in your country in 2007 (Brisbane, Rockhamton, Townsville area) and loved the fact that almost every where I looked I saw a nice LandCruiser. I also loved the countryside and the Beer!

Here I am back again; thanks for the complements, and yes, there are a lot of Cruisers around here. If you want to see HDJ80s, you should head to Perth for a while, the place is crawling with them.

Right - Now for some updates. Monday night last week was somewhat of an involved spending session on Cruiser goodies, and, well...Tuesday night...Let's not go there...
Anyhow, as a result, I have:
a new carby (Trollhole was out of stock, otherwise I would have got it from him.)
carby 1.webp

and a set of mirrors that are pretty average quality, but are better than what it had before (nothing)

And, from Tuesday's session, courtesy of @Cruiser Corps
