Oh dear, I've just bought a 77 FJ45

Then, on Sunday, my old (not very) cousin @Indestructible 47 came by and we changed the oil and filter and air filter.
I couldn't find any ZDDP additive in the shop and the young fella there had no idea what I was wanting and tried to sell me a product to stop tappet noise instead, which I declined. So, because I couldn't get ZDDP, I used a diesel spec oil (Gulf Western Top Dog 15W40 diesel) because it should have higher zinc levels in it.
Coming from a 2H, the power and torque of the 2F seriously impress me - for the adelaidians, she didn't go below 90 km/h the whole way up the freeway to Mount Barker, whereas in the HJ47, I'd be sitting in 3rd at about 2900 - 3100 rpm pulling 67 - 70 km/h up most of the hills.
Oh, and one more thing, I'm thinking of repsraying the exterior of the cab myself. What do people think - am I an idiot?
And, lastly, on the way are a set of 33x12.5 Maxxis Bighorns on 15x8 steel rims with round holes, like the ones in the picture below

eeek $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Yep, very much so. I have spent close to what I originally paid for it now, and, uh oh, the diesel bug is starting to bite again...I'm not sure which way to go - whether I should clean her up and sell and address the need for a diesel again, or stick with a petrol (Cogs turning here too - 105 spec 1FZ with coil packs and a H151...:hmm:) (A few months without a diesel cruiser and I would love to have the clackety-clack of a 2H again and, oh, that diesel smell. Nothing better, except being to stay within 20 km/h of the speed limit at all times, which the 2H could not do. Hard decisions...

man, your flying along, let me know how those tyres and rims fit and let me know if you need a hand.
As for the painting, I wouldn't do it yourself. you will find that it will be nearly as expensive and I will be very time consuming. also a pro painter will mask it up like.. well.. a pro painter would.

Yeah, I will. I have to go to Melbourne to collect them first though...
I've been holding the handle of a nice GRACO gun for 40 or so litres of 2 Pac polyutherane this week and I reckon a door shut respray might just be doable.

Well, I think it does!

Seriously going to melb? Towing by any chance? Can you collect some panels?

Dan

I'm not sure yet, we might take the 105. It won't be for a few weeks though.

Yeah, I'm sorry to say that the 45 is now for sale. I'm sorry to see it go after such a very short time :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby: but I am going to need to do longer-distance sort of stuff, including towing in a few months time, so I'm going to need something more suited to this purpose, and am on the hunt for a HDJ80 (if anyone knows one) I toyed with the idea of whacking the 45 on an 80 series chassis, but when I looked at the perfectly clean floors I thought there was no way I could cut it up to do that.

Well, work on the 45 still continues - thanks to some help from @Indestructible 47 she now sports a new set of 31.10.50 muddies, a bull bar and no horrible P.O. attempted (or not at all attempted) paint match spots. No decent pictures yet sorry...soon. Hoping to have her on the market this weekend. Why doesn't money grow on trees so I can have a few cruisers - I'm gonna miss my old friend. :crybaby::crybaby:

It does look a hell of a lot better than it did, that's for sure.

If that was the case, I would build a workshop purely for restoring cruisers to their former glory. I hate to see old cruisers go down, not to be revived.

The weird thing is on my computer, the pics are all the right way up, but ebay seems to rotate them. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

She's sold - went to a local guy who's going to tear her down and restore her. I'm sorry already that I sold her and he hasn't even picked her up yet. Anyway, i've got dibs if she's for sale again so I guess that's some consolation.
