I also pick up a '77 Fj45 for abit of a steal, $1700 and it runs!
Mine also has the 2F, is pretty clean rust wise-but needs a good tidy up and paint job.
Go the Aussie 40!!

Yeah, there's something about the 40 series that I miss, but the 80 just suits my needs a bit better at the moment.

No pictures for latest updates, but have been working on the beast slowly slowly, as its been winter here in Melbourne, with dark and cold nights!
Roof off, bonnet off, and have been away getting sandblasted-and come up pretty good!Not too much hidden cancer or filler, so that's a bonus!
Got both guards prepped and currently priming, and also brought and fitted a snorkel, may as well drill holes and paint them off properly!
Cant wait to get the panel and paint done, so I can move onto mechanic side of it-and then get out driving!
