Anyone know where to get a starter for my 1982 BJ42 LX? 12 volt , 11 teeth, 2.5w?
Mine is acting up...
Went to rebuild it and found it was already swapped with an aftermarket that I can't find parts for. Cleaned it up and replaced one contact, and so far so good. But would like to have a spare in case it acts up again.

Buy an early 80’s diesel pickup truck starter (2.4l?) from rockauto for like $100 and swap the 3B nose cone onto it. Works like a charm.
 
The nosecone swap is a option, but I don't think the starter motor is the issue, it was the solenoid, maybe if I take the solenoid apart again, measure the components and get a full rebuild kit, that may do it... maybe a winter project.

I was hoping to find a real NipponDenso that would fit, that I could rebuild and have a spare.

Thought 40Flipper might know of a source as I bought the truck from him, and he has had a few of these diesels. I will have to PM or text him.

Did finally find a shop that might be able to rebuild it if I am unable.

You can still use all the new solenoid parts. You’d be amazed what a new starter can do for a 3B. Sometimes you don’t realize how weak the motor is until you get a new one in there. I’ve also seen bad 3B starter motors show similar symptoms to a bad solenoid.
 
I'd like to sell the original passenger side doors and the lower tailgate from the 60 in my profile pic. These pieces do have rust (shown in craigslist post below), but the skins, windows, etc. are good. Can deliver to local members of YT / IH8Mud. All offers considered, I just hope someone can make good use of them.
