Kick out idea is something that I am going to do as well with my sliders. I am going to weld them on but I am curious on how you guys are planning the bolt on ones.

I don't exactly remember all the details of how we were going to design the bolt on. I remember talking about welding 3/8" grade 8 nuts to the inside of the 2 x 6 and having tabs on the kickout tubes where it would bolt to the 2 x 6.

Got a little steel delivered today

Holy shiite that picture brings back some very nostalgic memories... of my father's high school shop class... that clock, and do those steps go up to a classroom above the shop floor?... ah memories of youth. :crybaby:

Anyway. lessee-- Gumby asks am I coming 55 or 88-- google tells me to come down 59(?), so what the hell scenic route it is. What fastfood morning greasejoint does that put me close to?

3inches-- not to be a downer, but I think the air tank idea is a bust. If you put say 150 psi in a 2"x6"x8' slider, you'd only be able to air up maybe two big tires to street pressure. Air tanks suck, and small tanks are even suckier, so what if they're on your rig 'for free'.

Bolt-on kickouts-- it's sound too ambitious to me at the moment, but my recollection is similar to 3inches's. I think Rob and/or Gumby drew a pic of a (short) kickout with slots to rest it on and then tighten the bolts, so yer arms aren't trembling trying to suspend 20 lbs in the air while threading the bolt.

Place your breakfast orders, see yall in 9 days. Todd-- how much money are we bringing again?

I thought about the idea of having high pressure air tanks banging against rocks and stuff possibly causing an explosion, but I would like to use the slider air tanks to use air tools running off either an engine mounted or electric compressor. 2 x 6 x 96" gives about 5 gallon capacity if my math is correct. Multiply by 2 for both sliders and we get a capacity of about 10 gallons, not much but I would still add another frame mounted tank probably where the spare was. This would give me enough limited air tool use I think. I could be wrong, everyone tells me I usually am.

I like the bolt on kickouts, if we start running out of time we can skip them or maybe depending on how the day goes just go ahead and weld them on.But I still like the bolt on idea because it would be less obtrusive. I guess it's all depending on how the day goes.

The bill came today. $1,540.14

If everybody brings a check for that, we'll be good. :D

The 2X6 is $7 a foot.

The 2x4 is $5 a foot.

Round is $6/ft

Flat is $2/ ft

I think George's plans have a material list.

We'll be needing 12 5/16(or 3/8) by 4 inch long grade 8 bolts and nuts and 24 washers each as well. Or not, if you want 'em welded on, which I'd be happy to do, but strongly recommend against.

Coming down 59 works fine. You'll pass a micky Ds not too far north of 88.

$40/set for powder coating

I talked with cfcpaint.com, and he said $40/pair for the full powdercoat job, if we all agree on a color and he's got stock.

So, if that sounds good let me know. I'll vote for black, or a dark gray.

What's the turn around time on them? Black would be ok with me too.

Non-glossy black it is, I'll check into dark gray. He is willing to different colors, but it may wait longer (for a match in his stock).
Turn-around time-- "when I get to it", which I'm going to guess means a week maybe two.

Day 2 needs a date.

I have some weekends coming up, but the 2nd two pair have weekend conflicts. I will have weekdays off during the last week of March. I also might be able to get some of the parts made during the next couple of weeks.

How's the grinding coming on the first two pair. :)

Hey hey! Grinding starts on Wed. night. Doing a 48 hour shift so I should have them ground down by Saturday. I realized on Sunday I made one mistake. I never cut down the rears of the sliders before we put the end caps on. So, I think I'm going to test fit them once I get back to your shop, cut then ends, and make 2 new endcaps. Otherwise they look just awesome. I'm free this Saturday if you're going to be at the shop. I can also come back and help the other two guys during your break at the end of March. I'm thinking I can make 2 new end caps in about 20 minutes, and the tube I figure anywhere between 3-4 hours tops to finish them up. I can also take an inventory on the DS and PS rear backing plates and make a few more of those. Let me know if you're going to be around Saturday.

Sorry i couldn't make it.

Sorry I couldn't get over there to lend a hand on sunday. Last minute I got held up and by the time I finshed up It was already middle of the afternoon. Post when ya'll are getting together again and I'll try and get there. Glad to hear went well.

'Middle of the afternoon'? ;)

We started at 8 am sharp, and finished up right about 3 am. So, if you'd've shown up at 5 pm, we wouldn't even have been half done.

Every muscle I have is still sore, guys. My flabby ass can't handle that much sawing, grinding, torching, welding and bolting. When my kids woke me up at 7am, they ran screaming from the room, and my wife thought I'd been in some kind of industrial accident when she saw me coming down stairs.

I had a big puss-filled 'zit' on my chest that squeezed out a chunk of metal-- I think it goes with the big lump on my head where I stood up too quickly under my truck, after taking a hunk of slag down the shirt from one of chitown40's tack welds. :flipoff2:

But it was all good, I had a great time and would do that every weekend if I could. Well ok, maybe once a month. So when are we coming back out to keep working? Weekends are best for me, but if I have to I'll take a day off work, the more in advance I know the better.

Like chitown, I have a mod I'd like to make-- remember that driver-side flange that was too low, and we cut up? Well, I don't like the lower bolt hole now that I see it in the daylight, and I want to beef that up a little-- add a little gusset to put more meat around the hole.
