I'm good for march 31. I want a set like Kenton's. I'm very impressed on how they turned out. Not bad for a sketch done initially on a napkin. I'll worry about my bolt on kickouts on a later day.

Very nice.

Got your check.

Thanks!

Thank you! ;) The sliders look awesome! Although I will admit I needed to pull our chain come-a-long tool off our rescue squad to get the four bolts by the cat to line up. I guess the metal got about 1/4"-1/2" off during welding. No biggie. They're on and they feel pretty strong. I made some new brackets for both sides of the rear and they fit real nice.

Two coats of rust bullet and a few coats of Duplicolor Truck bed-liner spray. Very easy touch up too. In fact I had to spray a few spots after I pulled off the "fitment" chains. Should have pics in the morning. No dig camera around tonight.

If you want bolt-on kickouts we probably should weld on some nuts or studs before we put on the end caps. We have time to find some more bar napkins to sketch out the kickouts. :D

Confirming we are still on for this Saturday morning? Let's have a roll call who's going to be there. And, I assume I should be bringing my sliders as a template? I haven't touched 'em since I took them out of the '80 what was that a month ago, except to snap the pics. I guess my plan is to grind it like I want it before Saturday, and then after this Saturday when we'll hopefully be done with them all, I'll take mine and whomever else wants theirs powder-coated, over to the coating shop in Elk Grove. They'll do a light sandblast and etch before the powdercoat so bare rusty metal is fine.

I will be there to complete my set. I will follow Kenton's set with the 2x6. I think I've given up on the bolt on kickouts. I might just weld them on but I will decide after seeing Kenton's in person. It looks like it lines up with the flares already, I don't want the kickouts to stick out that much further.

What time are we meeting? I think the earlier the better like 7 or 8, but I don't want to cut into anyone's beauty rest :princess:

I'll be there at 8:00.

You can get there earlier if you want, but it won't be real productive. ;)

We've got two identical 6 inch, no tube sliders to make and I'd like to punch out an extra set of outriggers as I broke my sliders off again.

I'd really like not to stay more than 12-13 hours this time.

8 it is. We should test-fit my sliders to make sure they're good (the straps to clamp the sliders to the frame are still in your shop so I haven't been able to do that), if we need to do some tweaking do you have a frame rack or ram or portable press, etc that we can use to nudge an outrigger?
While we're futzing with that and getting the parts ready to weld, we can also get your outriggers out of the way-- we should make sure your stuff done before we run out of steam.

Good idea on the test fit. I had to use a chain come-along tool to finesse the cat side outrigger to line up with the holes. Not fun. I get off work at 8am tomorrow morning so I'll head out that way and hopefully be there by 9-9:30am. I can stay until about 4-5pm at the latest so I think we'll get some good work in. See you in the a.m.

Rob

Thanks for hosting us again Gumby.
Status: we finished Erwin's sliders. Andrius's parts are all made (including caps and backing straps), but only partially assembled. I would guess maybe 2-3 hours or less are needed to get them put together, depending on the number of welders, so we've improved! From 19 hours per two sliders to about 13 hours. Plus less mistakes requiring weld-on tabs and other fixes.
I am taking mine to the coaters this Wednesday. When they are out, I'll snap a pic.

Now that the sliders are done, we need our slider testing party once everyone gets them mounted.
Kenton, thanks for offering to take the sliders to the coaters. It's a great deal and I hate to pass it up, but I think I am still going to do some adjustments and I want to add some kickouts. Plus I still have to figure out how to tap it for use as an airtank. So once they are all done, that's when I will have them powdercoated.

I got mine painted finally. Had to wait for the weather to warm up a little. Drivers side went on with no issues. Everything fit well and I didn't have to bend up the seams either. What size was the four caputred nuts in the frame by the cats? I can't find them so I have to buy some new ones. Once I get everything installed, I'll snap a pic of them on.

Just made the last weld.

I still need to build mounts for my p/s and build a set for the FJC, but I broke the belt on the band saw so it'll be next week before I get to those.

The band saw, cold saw and horizontal band saw I aquired since the last slider day sure would have helped.
