LCDC is intended to be a 200 Series event. This is a Cruisers on the Rockies event being held the week before.

Oh yeah. We'll take yah :steer:

There will be the option to pick the trails of interest with various times and days.

Cody and Cole (the organizers) are working to finalize the trail list and number of trail groups.

Here's an example of last years schedule:

So it’s pretty much one route per day? I assume these are long routes too so would make sense

There will be a variety of route lengths. Its generally designed for morning starts at trail heads with some runs ending at noon or so, others mid afternoon, and some (like the complete Alpine loop) taking all day. Its not uncommon for the groups (or some of the group) to make additional adhoc runs after the official run is completed depending on time and weather. There are several ways to go from Ouray to Telluride, have lunch their and take a trial back to Ouray for a very full day. One thing to also take into account is that weather conditions are dynamic and rain (sometimes very heavy) in late afternoon is not uncommon so plans (and people) need to be flexible. Rain can make an easy trail hard very quickly and day can turn into night if stuff happens. Not trying to spook anyone here, nor state the obvious, but we've had some folks get stressed and upset when things didn't go to the plan they had in their head. Also, your trails leaders will do their best to make game time decisions but please remember, they are just volunteers. Each driver is responsible for their own decisions.

Hit me up and I’ll do my best

Is anything required to participate from a safety standpoint? Do I need a fire extinguisher? I have GMRS. Anything else?

I don't remember exactly what is required, but it's always smart to carry a fire extinguisher, radio, and first aid kit. Recovery gear is great, but I can guarantee there will be excess of that on the trails so it's not really necessary.

Maybe not so much safety but I’d encourage a hand held HAM radio for monitoring purposes as many of the trail leaders will have a preference for HAM. Especially if you run this event every year. Often there are spare hand helds for those who don’t have one. If everyone on a trail can at least listen on the HAM channel, it saves the trail leader from broadcasting everything in both HAM and GRMS.

Once trails are signed up for, you can communicate with your trail leader and work out coms. It will always get worked out if some just can’t do HAM.

I don’t currently have GRMS but plan on adding a pair of GRMS hand helds just in case my group isn’t all HAM. I’ll also have my spare HAM hand held to loan out if needed.

Nothing is necessarily required, but also, it is generally expected that you are prepared for the trails and conditions on hand, and that you assume responsibility for your own well being and that you also not risk the safety of others. My own opinion is that this would include all the normal safety preparedness that you would have for any offloading adventure, including comms, recovery gear, first-aid, fire extinguisher, etc.

There is inherent risk and I think its not a great idea to depend on other people to be prepared on your behalf.

Having said all of that, there will be plenty of folks that are prepared for things like fire. If you don't have a fire extinguisher, then best to hope you are amongst those people 😂

EDITED TO ADD: I am not an organizer and these are my opinions and should not be construed as any sort of official policy or other legally binding advice ;)

Sounds good. I’ve got first aid, recovery gear, radio, etc covered. I’ll throw a fire extinguisher in. Just wanted to double check because I know some events have specific requirements.

Anyone heard anything on the timing of releasing the planned trails?

SQOD - I know I am likely going to need to research which trails to go on... any recommendations to do that? I have Gaia GPS, and it does not give much of that type information. Maybe even... someone could give me a top 5 list for folks who have never seen Colorado? (most epic views, best long trail, best done with others, top potential solo trail with minimally modified LC, etc.)

Just thinking... not sure how frequently I can get to Colorado, so don't want to miss the "must-do" trails.

I'm a fan of Trail Offroad.

"must-do" depends a bit on your comfort. I think Imogene Pass and the Alpine Loop are must-do trails, but not every driver will be comfortable on sections of them.

This book is good to have and describes in detail all of the likely trails that will be run at LCDC.

Simple YouTube search’s is also often fruitful in finding dash cam videos of trails.

I can no longer attend. Not sure if you are sold out or not but I'd be happy to transfer my ticket to someone else.
