yup - hubby got to drive it yesterday

yeah, there's snow in the higher elevations of the desert, and Michael made me drive the Blazer instead of the 40 to the Forest Service volunteering I was attending yesterday morning; when it was indeed frickin' cold

he came and joined us after lunch for some wheeling when it was a little bit warmer

today, I drove the 40 myself, bundled up in windproof clothing :grinpimp:

the reason why I haven't put the full softtop back on this winter is that the windows are randomly cracking lately :frown:

I will need to have a new top custom-made - but a few steps are required before I can do so:

1) change old cracking aluminum bows to steel bows - one set of newer model Bestop bows already picked up for free :hillbilly: but have no idea of fir since I haven't tried to install them (a schematic would actually help is someone has one)

2) change poor-excuse diamond plate tailgate that cannot be opened to a real tailgate - OEM one-piece tailgate already picked up for a killer price :hillbilly: only there is no sill left to bolt it to

3) needs new rear sill - local cruiser guru already engaged in custom design :hillbilly: there are a few trucks ahead of me on his shop schedule, though

4) numerous little ends need to be attended to around this: cannot re-use existing taillights when the one-piece tailgate goes in, need new solution; same for back-up light and license plate - will need entirely new spare tire mount to work with the one-piece tailgate - need to devise new storage system; which up to now made use of space around the rear ConFerr bench that really no longer makes sense once I have the tailgate in

5) oh yeah, did I mention that my rearmost body mounts don't exist anymore and the next ones forward are crunched  so, the sill job has turned into "we need to do something about your rear flopping in the wind"

[no, not code ]

just to keep the BSing going (this is the BS thread, right ;p):

I have a line on 80 series wheels . . . and a 60 rear axle . . .

you see, the H55F is already holding the floor down at the cruiser guru's shop (for almost a year now  and the reason I got it in the first place was the rear main seal leak that is still not addressed :hillbilly:), and I also have a huge Rubbermaid bin full of front 60 axle parts, some of which already went through the parts washer once . . .

the power steering box has served as a mock-up for at least two other 40 power steering conversions already :hillbilly: and as of the last ramblings, was used in the third conversion, for which I am being compensated with an 80s box instead, or so I hear . . .

it just never ends . . .

I am not sure what you guys do on the North shore but on this side of the pond it's been Mardi Gras all day. Alcohol was probably being consumed by 6am for most folks. But to answer your question no, sadly no booze for me. I don't drink when I'm with my kids. The boxes reference is related to Bart's slogan that the only way out of LLK is in a box.

Sober here, but never left my house.
