1st off the very neat OEM radiator cap with chain....... add some bling bling to your Cruisers

below is a OEM brand new(not reman) early(65ish) clutch master and slave, SOR, CCOT and everyone says you must buy an upgraded one with a new hose or make an adapter as the new toyota stuff will not fit.......... Well my parts guy ROCKS and he got me this and it fits the stock line in my 65 fj45 and fj40. No fabin up......its just fits and its indentical to the original master(which has the cool metal res)

The early model clutch masters cylinders, slave cylinders, and clutch hoses, are still available from Toyota. The part of the system that's been discontinued is the clutch tube (Metal line). That's why SOR, CCOT, etc, try and sell the updated kit (and also substitute aftermarket parts for cheaper price). Some of the early model brake tubes are still available for suprisingly cheap price, so I suppose you could buy a longer brake tube, and cut it down to the proper length and flare the end to make it work if your clutch tube is in bad shape. The fittings on these early tubes are smaller than later tubes, and are nearly impossible to source on the aftermarket.

And, while everyone on THIS site seems to know, there are a bunch of asshats (thanks, Landpimp, I can't get enough of that term!) on ebay who don't realize that OEM Hubcaps are still available from Toyota.

I was one of those asshats once, I sold 2 sets of OEM hub caps on Ebay at a silly price a few years ago........it didn't set will with me..........so now i spread the word on what you can still get

AAtlas on Ebay, he is always claiming the stuff he has in discontinued..........NOT THE CASE, almost every part he sells can be had at the dealer for less(alot sometime) then he sells it for.

CCOT sometimes makes me wonder, they show the apron emblems for an early 40 as discontined by Toyota......I picked up ALL the emblems last week at the dealer. CCOT also emailed me about making repo early turn signals......I had to tell them........they are cheap new from Toyota

I did buy a few extra of the cool rad caps for my stash, also some other parts for the 45LV(or early 40's) that wont be around forever, figure I'll just stick em in a box in case I even need em.

my parts guy is Al at Titus Will Toyota in Tacoma WA, but really PM Cdan and he can find anything that Al can........it just takes someone willing to do some research(not much either) MOst dealers will say......can't get anything past 1970............BS!

a word to wise.

price check at Specter's online store to see what OEM costs- often their price on factory is FULL LIST price. Many dealers offer a discount or base a price off of dealer cost.

hub cap w/o hole $11 or there abouts

etc etc.

there are bad things, OE 1981+ J40 fender lights, close to $207 list EACH!

(windshield hold downs J70 series, $110 EACH)...

What I can't believe is how many people bid over $50 for those nifty inspection lamps that plug in the glove box. Almost every one I see on there is used and CCOT has them new for $24. I can't tell if they are OEM or not, but they sure do look close. All of the dealers in the Chicago area by me have had tons of trouble finding almost anything for my '77. I spent a whole afternoon calling around trying to find a simple coolant temp. sensor with no luck. Ended up having to buy from CCOT. Anyone in the Chicago area know of a dealer that can get OEM parts??

Yeah, we still have that problem here. I shot the breeze with a salesman from Evanston Toyota last week and kept calling my ride a Land Rover, even though I corrected him half a dozen times. After a while he actually got interested in the history of cruisers and was surprised there were so many styles before the 100 series.

Landpimp: Do you know of any place or dealer than can get those little rubber plugs that go in the pull cable holes in the dash? I haven't been able to find any locally around here or online.

The early model (1960-1965) front turn signals are truely a discontinued item. They have been superceded with the later turn signals by Toyota, probably because of DOT requirements. The later model signal housing still works just fine, but they're different. The early model housing had red lens, front and back (the housing is different), while the later model still available has a yellow lens in the front, and a solid back housing. I wish someone would step up and try to reproduce them, and I'd buy three sets at least.

I have heard of the light you mention but never seen one, my 64-65's(2 of them still have the original lights) all had the light like this(which is what CCOT was looking for)

only difference is on my 64 and 65 is that the housing was painted body color(when new). Never seen the yellow lens with black housing.

I know the bib lights changed to an amber lens, only SOR has the repo clear lens

picked up a 72 set over spring break.


i'd be interested in a 'master list' of sorts if there was anyone that knew what a good process would be to go thru and figure it out.
(read: i'll help put it together if someone will tell me who/what to call...)

yes you can get new inspection lights from Toyota, $25ish. I think the CCOT is OEM.

I can tell you this, if not for my local Toyota parts guy I don't know what I would do, he is the BEST parts guy I have ever EVER met, he has also become one of my best friends.........and he is the guy who found our stolen fj62 last year!!!!

the parts guys i've dealt with (charlotte, nc & anderson, sc) both have been great. i have to tell them a couple of times what i need and what i drive, etc. but i figure that is fine with me b/c they get the parts pretty quick, and have always called other dealerships to see if they have the part before sendin off to the regional warehouse or whatever their distribution center is.

and they both give an 'upstate cruisers' discount

I always start out at the dealer. I've been surprised what they have been able to order for my 7/69 FJ40. If CCOT lists the part with what looks like an OEM number then it's off to the dealer I go. Also, if Spector lists the part new, I pay my dealer a visit. The best part? I always pay way less than the other two. Of course my local dealer is CDan ... so what can I say.

one OEM fj40 shock, can buy em all day long for like $15, bid is up to $31 and the reserve is not met(opening bid was $10). Best part, shiping is $17 for one of them........more than the shock is at the dealer!!!

The early clutch tube is NOT the same as the early 9mm brake line fittings. the clutch tube/fittings are acutally quite a bit bigger than even the 10mm later brake fittings.

As for the real early turn signals with the red lense in the back, I think they dissappeared in 62 sometime. 64/65 should have the style still availble. IIRC Steve Kopito of Owens Export sells the clear lenses to Marv and last I checked his site, he still had them.
