I have a very good source for automotive size bolts. I'll check with them on Monday if I think of it, just for some added info for the thread.

Not sure if it's any easier to obtain them here, but let me know if your source does not pan out. I'll be willing to do some shopping down at the local hardware shop.

The reason I mentioned automotive size is that when a automotive manufacturer typically wants to restrict the possibility of using a non hardened bolt they will go with an odd sized bolt. I've seen this in engine head bolts that were 9mm as well. Because of safety concerns they wouldn't want someone to be able to replace that seatbelt bolt with a "hardware store" one for fear in an accident that it would fail and cause injury.

Dan, not to revive this thread needlessly but I had a thought about the filler hose issue. Could you check the 100-series filler hose that goes from the steel filler tube to the tank? IIRC, it is the same diameter and is flexible - could be bent to the correct angle without kinking. Just a thought but figured at least you could check one out in hand.

I already tried that one Mike. The 100 hose is indeed flexible but it is smaller in diameter and not long enough. In my searching I did locate a flexible hose from MR2's and early Camrys that was the correct diameter and would make the bend, however it was not long enough and would have required a short piece of straight hose so I opted to go the other route as I would have still needed two 80 series hoses as well as the MR2 hose. Besides, that hose was 48 bucks :flipoff2:

Ah, go figure you would have chased down every Toyota option...was worth asking though. The short hard line elbow with readily accesible filler hose is certainly the practical way to go. Especially if you "recycle" that bend from your original like you did you have like, what maybe $5, for having it properly installed.

Have you had the "pleasure" of pumping 35+ gallons into the beast yet? I did that last year in DV when it was only $2.75/gallon!

David,

Those photos are amazing..........

Your 80 has what we understand to be a 105 series neck...!

Your lower outlet assembly appears to be EXACTLY the same as the one I ended up with. It DOES NOT look at all like what I have seen represented as 80 series necks.

Your photo leads me to believe that later 80's may use a neck similar to the 105 OR JUST MAYBE we are getting true 80 necks of a later vintage.

I would love to know that the part numbers are for the hoses from the neck to the tanks.......;)

:D

OK - just back from the dealer (a different one).

Their parts department's computer showed the same vague graphics, but about a half an hour's research with a more interested parts rep revealed the following:

As Dan suggests,

1. a different neck was used in Australian 80 petrol model years 1992-1995 (77730 60011) than was used in late 1995-1998 (77730 60012).

and consequently:

2. the outlet hoses from the neck in the corresponding years are:

1992-1995 77259 60121 (fore) and 77259 60110 (aft)

1995-1998 77259 60112 (fore) and 77259 60111 (aft)

My 80, which contains the neck shown in the photos above, is a 1997 model year.

Interesting note - when the parts rep pulled up the schematic for the 105, there was no part similar to the necks described above; the schematic described a system with two holes at the filler, one for each tank.

My confidence level in the above information is not high enough to recommend someone order parts without seeing them first. Sorry it can't be higher but I would prefer to see the actual parts with the numbers on them. That said, the parts rep said these are the parts his service department would order if my truck or an earlier model year required them ;) .

Best of luck,

David

By the way the parts rep gave me a very odd stare  when I inquired about the filler door sticker...

David,

It sure has been awfully nice of you to have been all this detective work for something that you don't need.

I know someone already has, but would like to tell you again "Thank you!".

My pleasure! But I may need it after all - maybe I'll bring a tank and parts back to California and do the mod to the LX!

I'll echo the thanks David. This has cleared up a few mis-conceptions regarding the "supposed" 105 neck. This neatly explains why the neck fits the body so nicely.

Steve-O just called to inform me my tank was here and going out UPS Ground tomarow. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

He told me he had good news to tell me, he said he got a complete kit together for me. :) Good customer service. Then he said he saved me some money becouse UPS has signed a treaty recognizing Alaska as part of the United States and were now offering equal services due to our recently accuired citizenship.

I'm being a smart -ss so please take this as a HAHA not as complaining, Today is a glorious day for all Alaskan's who do Some of their shopping out of state.
I was going to pay more for shipping the tank then Steve was selling the tank for. I am happy there is a UPS, and I am happy I now pay what someone in New York pays to have the same thing shipped to them from California.
Rant Off

Steve said that he ordered extra parts from Oz to fix the missing parts problem and I was getting the first one he has had a chance to put together. :grinpimp: I have been treated so well from every vender that I have had buisness with off of this forum, I am refering to Mot as well though I don't know if he conciders himself a vender.

Steve also said the tanks were now shipping with the filler necks like the one Dan got. So thanks Dan for doing the pioneering work and telling us about it. Now I have instructions for that problem to. So Dan, I'll be adding 60 gas filter and the hoses I need on my next order. :D

I want to thank Ron and George and Dan and all the other poster who offered up idea's and experiences, you guys have been great and helped me in alot of differant ways. :flipoff2:

Well I just wanted to jump up and down and yell Yea to folks who would understand.

Hey Mot
My local bolt store only had 10 and 12mm. Did you find any where you live?
This is a post about the elongated 11mm bolts right.

Hi Dan, I don't know how they are doing it
I do know that both UPS/Fedex list all 50 states under the discription page for the various shipping services they offer. I can find the link off of the local board here and send the info.
Oh maybe the Alcan comment is sarcasm ;)

I also know by working for UPS as a ramp person, that all the planes headed to Asia stop in Anchorage and usualy were half empty, packed full coming through from asia. There was room on the plane

I was not being a smarty pants. I'm curious if they have really started offering "ground" rates to AK. I have not seen anything from them indicating that. If it is true that is very good news for you.

I'm not only the president, but also a client!

Don't know why I thought of that cheesy hair piece commercial line when I read the above comment. I'm selling stuff, but I'm not a vendor, maybe. But thanks! If I did consider myself as one then I would feel obligated to get the "red star" and I'm too cheap to do that (yet). ;)

I never looked for the 11mm stuff because of Rick's comment. I'm not sure if my local store offers any "automobile/automotive" grade nuts and bolts, but if you want I will go check it out for you and find out (I just came from the store, actually. :D )

What length and material should it be; galvinized(sp) steel or doesn't matter as long as it's strong enough.

Yeah it is wierd, my shipping manager came up to me last week saying that UPS now offers a ground service to Alaska, and Hawaii. Maybe they have those hoover boat things that can go on land and water! I am not really sure how they are doing it, but I am not complaining.
Glad I could help you out Steven, let me know how everything works out for you. Just so everyone knows, I do not have any more of these tanks in stock, I should be getting some in next week hopfully. Thanks, Steve.

Interesting. My UPS software, that was updated just a couple days ago, will not let me select any ground options to AK............

UPS website lists all 50 states have "ground" shipping.

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/select/sending/services/ground.html

I'm convinced this is just a change to how they define their shipping catagory structures. This stuff is still being loaded on a plane to get here.

Last spring I bought a OME from Kumar who packaged it up in three seperate parcels (2 springs) (2springs) (4shocks) and shipped it USPS for about $80 (I think Kumar was in KS)

UPS, Fed-EX, CF, all quoted me double+ that to get it here.

I'm also curious if the "ground" is actually a less expensive rate given than you would of paid a year or so ago.

OK,

I just got off the phone with "Brown"..:D

They did start this "ground" service a couple months ago. I do not remember seeing an announcement to that effect but I probably missed it. It requires a new "Worldship" software version 7.0 (#01970217). They are sending one to me. Although it is "ground" it really isn't as the freight rides on aircraft. It moves "space availabe" and can get bumped at any time.
