Scott - you have WAY too much time on your hands to play with satelite images!

I don't think any of us knew about the blessing of the bikes - it may be VERY crowded...but as you pointed out so well, there is lots of overflow parking just up Live Oak Canyon Rd.

Whos down to caravan from the LA area ?

Teejnut, i know you live a couple of blocks from me. We should meet up before we head out.

Yep we can meet up before we head out from burbank.

I'm in Playa del Rey...where would we meet up? Would you guys be coming down the 5 or 405?

We could meet up at my place and head out from here. Im assuming we will use the 5. My buddy might roll in his FJ, so so far we have 3 from the Burbank area.

Looking at the map, it looks like the 405 would be a direct route down before merging with the 5. At least youre closer to the meeting place.

Im leaving the SCV around 0900 and Ill be using the 5S. I would love to meet with the Burbank guys but I wouldnt count on me - I could be early or late and Ill be playing catch up.

What 2M Frequency are we using that day?

Scott, thanks for your hard work on this dude... i put your images on page 1 for anyone that hasn't been following this thread.

I think I spent at least 5 minutes on it, but hey thanks guys. :o :)

More fun maps.

That is hardcore mapation. Nice work.

What about those of us still trapped in yesteryear who only have CBs? No 2m...

Lastly, I wouldn't mind getting my truck blessed so I think that day will be fun...

I know for sure SocalFJ and Brentbba will be sporting both 2M and CB so no problem.

I have a CB but Im not sure it will be properly set up for this trip. Im utilizing it to have the CB antenna mounted to the ARB bumper to look cool. LOL.

Get your HAM license, much much better mode of comm especially when your miles from a/the Group.

Yep, just installed a new CB antenna and tuned it up Saturday. Thanks to Stan (RFJTOY) for stopping by Saturday late afternoon to give it a real world test. Couldn't get the SWR down below 1.8, but transmission and receiving was just fine from over a mile away with a hill in the way as Stan drove off.

Usually use the day of the month for the CB channel and as SoCalFJ stated 146.460 is the 'generally accepted' cruiser simplex channel. We'll be monitoring both!

Fergie - 405 for you is best. 5/405 merge at the El Toro Y and your first exit after the merge is El Toro Blvd.

Look forward to meeting all of you!!!

Someday - but too many other things need my time and money more than a new radio, unfortunately.

I'm not advocating the Forest Service Adventure Pass program but FYI upper Trabuco Canyon is part of the Cleveland National Forest. If you plan to park and recreate along the trail you must have a current Adventure Pass in your vehicle or risk being fined up to $100.00.

An Adventure Pass can be bought at the
Trabuco General Store for $5.00
31021 Trabuco Canyon
Trabuco Canyon, CA 92678
949-858-1711

The store is literally a few hundred yards from the Trabuco Creek meeting place and a cool place to stop anyway. There is still a hitch to tie up your horse and a working well to water them.

Just a thought but should we have a plan B in case Cook's Corner is maxed out? Chilling at O'Neil Park would be a good alternative. Day parking is $5.00 on weekends I could bring a small gas BBQ for cooking. Alcohol is prohibited but.....and there is plenty of parking

Cool website with lots of pics and historical info on the area.

Anyone up for a short hike? There is a decent waterfall a mile or so up from the the Holy Jim Canyon Trailhead.

That little waterfall is our stock hike for Webelos bridging over to scouts. Fun little hike I'm always up for. Absolutely will need the adventure pass to park there. I'm with Dave on the yearly pass!

Never have driven past the parking lot at the Holy Jim trailhead. Just more dirt road? Go anywhere? Worth a quick expedition to explore?
