Hey guys the cruiser and I made it to the other side of the country just fine. Only issue the whole time was when the screw holing my ignition points vibrated loose and they lost their gap. Luckily for me I had a feeler gauge and she was back on the road within a few minutes. You wouldn't believe how many people wander over when a 40 series has it's hood up at a gas station!

Total miles for the trip 3281 after cutting out a portion of the trip.

Anyway here are just a few pictures from the trip.

Just stumbled across your thread as I'm looking to get into a 43 myself, looking forward to following your progress! Congrats on the quick work you did and your journey. I hope Coos is treating you well, what I'd give for a wormhole to cooler weather at the moment. Cheers

Also discovered that even though it's a 78' is still has some of the "fresh air" parts. The hood portion has been covered and caulked shut. I think I want to try and add the feature, if anyone has a "fresh air" pull switch or other parts related to it shoot me a PM.

I noticed my '78 FJ43 also has this. I'll be following along to see what you come up with. I may install an A/C unit from Vintage Air.

Hey IH8MUD,

I know I've been doing an awful job of keeping my thread going but I really haven't done a lot with the 43 since owning it, all my fun money has been going to other hobbies. I'm no longer DDing the 43 since I picked up a mint 1st gen Tundra but I still have. love it, and drive it on the few nice days we have in the PNW's winter.

Sadly last month I had an accident with the 43 and backed into another truck... I'm having a hard time trying to decide on how to move forward with repairs. The hard top on my 43 was made by a company called Fivres that no longer exist and getting a new door from them is simply not an option. I don't think the door is repairable either.

I'm looking for dimension of the American 40 ambulance doors if anyone can help me out. I've been looking at a lot of pictures of 40 ambulance doors and I think that Fivres might have modeled my 43's doors directly after the 40 doors.

So if anyone can measure their 40's ambulance doors and let me know the dimensions I'd really appreciate it. Also the distance between the hinges.

Here's a picture of the damage just for laughs :(

Damn...tough luck on the rear door for sure. Maybe have a shop that does fiberglass work take a look at it. Damage is not as bad as I expected, but unfortunately right at lower hinge mounting area. Perhaps one of the guys that import these trucks from down south may be able to help you locate a replacement? Good luck with the repair and please keep us posted on your solution if you are able to fix the damage

The door was open when I backed into the car. Lucky for me the door gave out and didn't do any damage to the rear quarter panel.

You could have Gozzard make you a new rear door.

This is why I love this site! They have doors on their page already! They look almost exactly like the Fivers doors. I will give them a call and discuss my options.

l snapped some quick pics of my 78 doors maybe it will help. Pretty sure it’s orginal bottoms but never know with these when they have a bunch of old owners

Looks like the 40 probably 1/2" narrower all around. My doors are 20"x41". Thanks for your help.

My top is quite a bit different. MPR was the manufacturer. After putting a new spare on (33"x10.5") the tire hits the top when fully open and is cracking the corner on that side. Any one know of a place to get a single wheel spacer?
