Looking back at this https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owner...-67-central-american-model-6.html#post5845410 the roof supports have come a long way. There is a lot of sheet metal under there that rusts real well!!

I know I would not have been able to do this justice.

Here's a completely new firewall section that incorporates the original steering column and a disc brake booster. I get to have safety and the "old school" look both at the same time.

The body all trussed up to make sure it ends up straight.

Looking forward to getting this thing done.

cruiser guy, LV is looking really great. Don't forget to add the necessary plates with captured nuts during this phase to allow for three point seat belts. Cheers.

I'll ask Paul about that. I hadn't given it much thought.

I cant wait to see this vehicle in person, what an amazing resto!

Lee

I'm looking forward to it as well. The last time I drove it (which was also the first time) it rattled and clunked all the way across Guatemala City until the fan belt jumped off and the old worn out F engine quit.

The next trip will be a "little" longer from San Jose, Costa Rica to Canada/USA (depending on where I park it while I am out of the country).

A late model firewall will swap in no problem.

Yes, but I wanted the "old school" look all the way with the safety of dual circuit disc brakes.

How is it different? I thought the only difference was the bolt in pattern and the support arm goes to the side like yours. When I say late model, I am referring to 70's FJ40 fire wall. Looks like the one on yours, but I have not looked at it in a looooong time.

How is it different?

The steering column is different. The old column like the stock one in the LV has a tube from the steering box all the way to the dash. The newer column just has the tube from the firewall and of course that changes the signals and other column mounted stuff which is what I wanted to retain.

Take a look at the pics you posted here https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owner...-67-central-american-model-3.html#post2980975 and the ones above paying attention to the steering column area.

Some more pics of the restoration. The usual rusted out roof supports.

Wow, if that was in my garage I think I might give up...

That rig is in the right place for sure..

I know I would not have been able to go into it this deep.

A question on the disc swap. I did the swap using non-vented mini truck rotors and calipers 'cause that's what I had. I have since come up with a front axle from a '60 series that I tore down. Is it worth swapping the vented rotors? I tried flogging the '60 axle but no one bit. I'll have either the mini-truck or '60 axle parts available to whoever wants to buy them.

I would definitely go with the vented LC calipers and rotors. The mini truck weighs a lot less than your LV.

That'll be the plan then.
