Rust bullet is the ticket!

I used the auto grey and did my whole interior tub...love that stuff.

the black shell is designed to go over it or you can paint any other color you want over it.

I haven't used it but durabak is another option...I think jrob has used it or jeff was going to...can't remember...my vote is rust bullet...I like it alot....tough as nails.

if you go that route ill pm ya some ideas, no nos, must dos for application

Spent a couple hours at the shop today, and now I'm seriously considering taking the restore all the way down to the frame, and having the frame sandblasted and powder coated (buddy of mine owns a PC shop will do the whole thing, blast and powder coat) for $400.

BUT, this involves me pulling the engine and drivetrain, removing the suspension, etc.

Somebody please talk me out of it...cause as it sits right now, i'm pulling the engine on Sunday!

That is a lot of work and more importantly down time for the 40. If I was you, I would get it running and enjoy it when the weather is great. If you still feel like doing it in a few months, work on it in the winter when it isn't miserable to work in a shop.

That's good advice, thanks. But i'm def not in a hurry, and i am 100% sure if i don't do it now, i'll never do it. Def on the fence, but even though it's a lot of work, i think it might be worth it in the long run...

Unless you're gonna retain the stock suspension, I'd take it all the way down to the frame and build it back from there.......there's no guess work doing it that way.

Wasn't planning on doing this originally, but looks like that's where i'm headed now.

I want to stay stock height on the suspension, maybe a small lift. This truck will never be taken to any extreme off road trails.

Knowing this, what would you guys suggest for the suspension? I want to have that ready when the frame comes back.

Old Man EMU 2.5" kit is the best riding I have ever felt.

I like the CCOT kit as I helped design it. I am not crazy about the shocks, but other than OME kits, all the shocks are pretty much the same. Again, 2.5" is the way to go with 33's it looks stock height.

I saw a complete OME Fj-40 kit for sale last week on Mud

You talking about this one?

Would a medium kit be better (as opposed to heavy in the front)?

I am not against reusing Ubolts. I love the OEM ones and they clean up nicely and are all stretched out by now and won't loosen up like new ones will while breaking in.

That said, people really freak out about reusing them on Mud. I think it is fine.

Check with Metal Tech, I am pretty sure they got the OME line still and he is a big supported of our club.

Thanks, that's what I needed. I'll order from MetalTech then.

On that note, with all the help you guys have given and are continuing to give me...I'd like to at least pay the CLC membership fee, join the club, even though I'll likely never make a meeting because of the distance. How do i signup / pay?
