You say some front teeth are shaved ? Like for getting the center pin in on the rear end ?

It's like when my tire bounced into the rock under power with enough force to make two lower knuckle bearings, a hub lock-out, and a u-joint explode. One tooth is about 20% shaved and the next is about 10%. The ring and pinion still operate smoothly but I think I'm gonna replace for good measure. Oh, and I definately have longfields in the front, needless to say, they are undamaged.

Darin is saying that with high aftermarket gears (4.88s, 5.29s), it's necessary to grind down a couple of ring gear teeth to get the center pin, that's necessary for a SF axle, to fit.

Did you see any metal shavings in the gear oil? If not, I'd just run it, especially if only two teeth are "shaved" and all other ring and pinion teeth are undamaged.

I can bring some pattern compound to check the pattern if you'd like.

Ahh, I did read somthing about that. Wasn't sure exactly what was supposed to be shaved. Didn't find any shavings but I havent wiped everything out of the diff yet. Johnny, perhaps when I get my locker I'll bring the third up to your place and we'll tackle it and drink some beers.

Thank you for clarifing it. I wonder if it was in the rear axle for a bit and that is why it was shaved down some.

Sure! Come on over! Installing gears isn't that bad, you just need a dial indicator and some time.

Thats what I'm thinking too. Usually when a gearsets fails, more than just two teeth are jacked.

A little searching around and I found a set of replacement guts for my Aisin hubs. Inner and outer gears made out of chromoly. But they are a Trail Gear product so I'm hesitating and would like to know if anyone has direct experience using them. Even though they carry a lifetime "no questions asked" warranty I'd like some feedback before I buy. Anybody know about these?

Tank will be there. I may ride with him, we'll see

Longfields only warrantee the outer splines if you use their hub gears. If the teeth are damaged using others (stock, etc.)they will not cover them. I wouldn't suggest getting chromoly ones. Theirs are $100, I ordered them when I got my axles

Awesome thanks. Also, I've got a few things knocked out. Knuckle rebuild, helper springs all around, probably gonna have the front locker installed before Nov 2. Burt is sitting about 1.5 inches taller.

I intend to be there. If there's no work on other people's trucks, I'll work on my own!

I'd love to be there but would only have about 45 minutes after accounting for travel time. And that's IF I can keep work from popping up. I feel real bad because I'd like to give back to Mike for all his generosity. Terry's going to an island paradise to buy a Ferrari 308 and solve crimes so I don't feel so bad about him!

Me and the :princess: plan on coming Saturday but I have to work until 1:00. Should arrive around 3:00.

I'm not bringing the 80; even though I need a rear bumper install and a squeal to track down. I think I'll just fetch wrenches, drink beer with Meatball, and enjoy the company. I hope I might even learn some mechanicing! ;)

I'll also be there around 3 on saturday. I think. About 70% right now cause I still have alot of painting to do at my new casa

Meats, I thought you were coming friday?

Anyone who needs directions or an address can PM me for it. I think I'll be doing KFC or pizzas to make things easy. I believe we will be a relatively small group. BYOB and I'll have water and coffee.

My list right now: Finish plumbing for ARB to the compressor and check 100% for function; reassemble front axle; drill front transfer case flange and install driveshaft; install lockright in rear diff; install e-brake assembly onto rear of transfer case; install saginaw steering pump.

Have you purchased your pump yet, or the pulley, or figured out your high pressure line setup yet?

Have you finished putting the diff together?
