Many of us, Jason included, talk behind the scenes about this. We've played the "wait it out" strategy to death. It's a scam. I've detailed a few times in this thread various scenarios as to what their play could be. Spending $80K-$100K on a scam that could get $500K or more isn't a bad investment. They've done it before. Thanks in part to this thread, they've been derailed. But they're stuck with an expensive paperweight so they have to keep playing the long game. The guy suing them is an airplane mechanic in South Carolina who I've spoken with multiple times, not a fake account. @RMP&O, I agree, I do not get it at all. For the effort, they could be working hard at real jobs. But there is documented history of them running the same exact scams in the past on different communities. I guess they "go with what ya know". The LC community is like family to me. I hate seeing my family get ripped off. If the Papps want to rip-off Land Rover dudes, there's not much I can do about that. But while they're preying on the LC community, it's impossible to stay quiet.

Well said Steve. you are absolutely right we are all not seeing the long game, just because some think no one would tie up that kind of money in a scam is the very reason it can work.
Cheers

But they are better at scamming people than anyone else is at exposing them. They will never admit it publicly.

So, stop. Move on. If they rip someone else off that person had plenty of notice. Like I said before “I almost don’t feel bad for them (the people getting ripped off) anymore.”
People don't have to be stupid to get ripped off, they just need to be ignorant of the wolves and their methods. As you put it, the wolves are very good at what they do, and regardless of internet chatter (the very thing you are dismissing here), folks will continue to get ripped off.

And, no wonder; people can't believe everything they read on the internet.

However, many regulars on 'Mud are better informed, having spent the time in getting to know whose opinion to trust. That is a valuable thing.

HORRIBLE CONTRACTOR
I can't believe what I just read... I'm currently going through the same thing. The emotional stress he has cause My Wife and I is sickening. Mike Papp is the worse contractor I have ever hired. It has taking him 4 weeks to complete a floor and ceiling. Mike has every excuse not to show up. He is careless and disrespectful. He has dented my brand new refrigerator , broke a water line, got spackle on my carpets. He goes outside to smoke and throws his butts on the ground in front of my house. The tile he has put down are loose and the grout is crumbling. He also asked me for a partial payment in the middle of the job. Mike comes to my house around 9am and leaves by 1pm and then you dont't see him again for days. DON'T HIRE MIKE PAPP.
This was copied from YSCAM. check the post date, I guess the home reno business keeps the cash flowing. Fingers in a lot of pies.

Ok fine @SteveJackson perhaps they have gone to these lengths. I doubt it though. Maybe over a bottle of booz, a night on Ebay and this forum and they cooked this all up. They then spent $100k or more to import the VDJ79, do the start up business, ect ect ect. They thought people are dumb enough to send them a bunch of big deposits for a truck not even legal yet? Perhaps, but as you are well aware, it would not have been a cheap venture and also very risky to buy that VDJ79 in the Middle East and then import it all for a scam. Thing is this all heated up when yourself and others started asking to see documents. I myself, if I was breaking new ground like getting a VDJ79 DOT & EPA compliant would not be sharing those docs with everyone either. There are plenty of people on this forum and more across the web who will take somebody else's work and use it for their gain and benefit rather than do the work themselves.

Not to mention, there are plenty of other vehicles that are much easier to pull off some scams on. Rovers is a good example. G-Wagen just as good. Not to mention vehicles like Skylines. They would have had much less risk and it would have been much easier to rip people off and scam people if they just copied what Mushro does.

I am not saying it isn't a scam but the fact remains, the VDJ79 is in the country and has been for more than a year. Everyone here I am sure can agree it would/will be sad if it gets crushed.

Cheers

Totally agree. But these are professional scammers. It's what they do. The LC community is a ripe target. If they had gotten off the ground without being so heavily exposed here, they were going to get deposits, investors and buyers to give them money.

Their exemption ends June 2018, it hasn't been quite a year. Although they did claim to have 2 vehicles, but only 1 has ever been seen. Well, they also claimed to have 3 vehicles already federalized, and now that I think of it, they've claimed a whole lot of things that aren't true. We could be here all day.

I just heard about this one. Papp was sued by craigslist for selling software that would automatically flag CL ads for removal which violated their terms of service. He was ordered to pay $1 million. Wonder if he ever did lol. He's also not allowed to use craigslist according to the judgment but he still is. Man, these guys are real professionals.

Fxxxing weird!

I guess I simply do not have time or the desire to see how deep this rabbit hole goes. I am spending zero time digging anything up on them, I got better things to do. It is just hard to imagine they imported a VDJ79 with the idea and hopes to scam a bunch of people with it. It is not like there is even that many people into 70-series, less who have a $100k and want a VDJ79. Such better easier less risk ways to scam people, even with Cruisers.

I am very curious how things play out with the VDJ79 and that is all holding my interest at this point.

Cheers

Let’s not give them any ideas on how to scam us though. Please.

I imagine the market for $100k VDJ79 is about 7.

Ian - you're assuming WAAAAAAYYY too much here. Step back. Look at the larger picture.

Take for example, your assumption that the ~$100K "investment" in this scam was [all] the Papp's *own* money... Pro scammers like these guys will be putting other people's money at risk by finding "investors" to front it...promising huge returns on their "investments"...

THIS. 100 Times over. The Papps are proven OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER that they CANNOT be trusted. Sorry, once a scammer, always a scammer. Read the f*cking writing on the wall! HISTORY OF NON-STOP SCAMS. Suddenly appear out of nowhere, when LandCruisers are the HOTTEST auto collector ticket, claiming to have a f*cking magic black box (FOR PETE'S SAKE IF THIS IS NOT "SNAKE OIL", I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS!!!!) that can magically do what NOBODY else can do (yet claiming ANYBODY can do it, they just aren't looking hard enough), starting off with bogus ebay auctions, repeatedly caught lying OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER.......................... How many more red f*cking flags does anybody need to see!?!?!?!

I do not welcome them in the Land Cruiser family. They can go pound f*cking sand! They get 0% benefit of doubt here.

C'mon now, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

Isn't part of the scam the opportunity to invest in some new "emissions testing technology" they are "developing"? I don't remember.

Re-branded as "blowing smoke up into a scam-ee's browneye"?

I hear ya but you are assuming it is not their money. Just as much of an assumption as I made if not more so.

And whatever. They have a double cab VDJ79, I hope it isn't crushed.

I really have to much going on with life and Cruisers to give much of s*** about it all.

I suggest people educated themselves before buying a Cruiser. A guy who checked out my PZJ70 today is also looking at an LJ70 on the East Coast, seller is named Don. Well good ole' Don told the guy it has 135hp! And it is a 2LT, it is turbo'ed and so the guy who is interested thinks it has gobs more power than my 1PZ. I warned him as best I could that it has nearly 30hp less than the 1PZ but good ole Don is selling lies.

Educate yourself folks. It is the only way you can buy with confidence from anyone.

You can get a VDJ79 from the Middle East for under $50K. They are fishing and anyone willing to take their bate better be ready for a ride that will end up with a broken line! People should be warned.
