Available October 2017? Where is it?

Are you able to import other non-U.S. market vehicles as well with this system, or is if for some reason unique to the LC 70?

For the vehicles you are building, if you aren't LC experts, I'm not confident you are going to provide the quality/dependability/durability I have come to expect from owning Toyota Land Cruisers. But perhaps you can convince me otherwise.

I guess I am just not understanding how we can take a brand new 2017 Toyota 70 Series and add everything that is required to make it legal in the US and somehow we end up with a Toyota of lesser quality, dependability and durability? Just makes no sense to me.

There is an Unobtanium sticker on that webpage.

Yeah... but, like... how? :deadhorse:

The 1VD-FTV engine in the LC America will be EPA compliant and the LC America vehicle itself will be DOT/NHTSA safety certified. If you choose not to accept the EPA certificate of compliance and the DOT/NHTSA safety certification, I am not sure what to say.

I asked two questions, you answered neither. Could you try again please?

You are importing the 70-series, can you import other vehicles with your system? I'm sure there are far more valuable vehicles to import, and if you are not LC specialists, why not those vehicles?

You are building this LC-America, something you say is LC quality, but you aren't LC experts. How are you achieving LC quality when you aren't an expert on LC?

My apologies:

Yes, we should be able to import other vehicles with our system -- though we are focused on the 70 Series at this time.
We have no interest in importing other more valuable vehicles at this time. This endeavor was never about the money.
Developing a system that allows the 1VD-FTV engine to meet EPA emissions requirements is what we do.
Understanding what needs to happen to the LC79 so that it meets all DOT/NHTSA safety requirements for certification purposes is what we know.

We are talking about brand new vehicles. Come look at our vehicles when they are available for sale. If you are unhappy with the quality of our builds, let us know and we'll see what we can do to address your concerns.

Seeing as October 2017 has come and gone, maybe it’s time to give the folks a new date to look forward to?

Toyota could do this. If they could. Couldn’t they?

:hhmm:

At $120k+ for the G-wagon, our new 2017/2018 LC America's will cost you 1/3rd less, be far more capable and -- as the LC America is based on the Toyota chassis -- far more reliable.

Great advice, but just to clarify: We never said we could do this for $40k and we will not be circumventing ANYTHING. 100 percent by the EPA and DOT/NHTSA book.

I’m just gonna leave this here.

Aside from all the other s*** going down in here.

You seriously need to learn your product, I’ve never seen a dual cab 70 with drum brakes, unless the Middle East versions are lower spec than ours.

Also the DPF that Toyota has installed is a fickle animal that likes to s*** itself with disturbing regularity, I have no doubt that a DPF would be required to meet US emissions standards so removing them would be impossible and replacement of destroyed units can run up about $5000.

I misreads that, my fault;)

Not insinuating that you are going to go around any laws, but, as I said, most of uswould be interested in the details of process of getting it certified from a legality standpoint;)

I know if personally be interested in one only if it was 110% legal and as stock as could be. I think the main problem you're going to have is price. I'd bet most people on 'Mud wouldn't buy one due to a price factor.

If I had unicorns to sell, the first thing I'd do is saddle one up and ride that sucker all over the friggin' country for peope to drool over.

Not hang out on interweb forums trying to convince everyone that unicorns exist.

$80k? You can get a heck of a lot of vehicle for that kind of coin, so I'd be expecting something with the unquestionable quality as well as excellent support of a new LC. I haven't heard anything that makes me expect any factory support or dealer network, so this would be riskier than buying an out of warranty U.S vehicle. These trucks aren't without their quirks, like the DPF mentioned above, so you'll end up wrenching on your new $80k vehicle rather than taking it to the dealer. It will be hard to find buyers in that price range who are willing to wrench on their new prestige toy, or pay a mechanic to research and guess at how to fix things.

I love the vehicle, but the business model isn't looking viable so far. If John Papp came here to get info on his endeavor, he is getting it from all sides, hopefully he takes it as honest advice and feedback even though we tend to be harsh for our own amusement. He is not going to find a more knowledgeable and honest group to bounce this off.
