It's alive....

Only weirdness I had was yesterday I had a stray 30-50v that was confounding me. Remembered the driveway motion light is on a 3 way switch in the house, and sure enough some sorta cross pollination was going on. There was a fair bit of walking around and WTFing till I figgered that out.

Couldn't find a big junction box, so I just used 4 little ones. I've been in and out of that wire chase above the panel so many times over the years, I'm just going to put a hinged door on it. So they won't be buried in a wall.

Couple more circuits to finish up and the welding feed to run, and to tidy the wires a bit, but it's time for a beer and to let the freezer catch up again.

Nice work man! 👏. Got that done pretty quick! Let's see some impressive welds now.

Cause I don’t know where else they’d go…

I know I wouldn’t use them for SUA… be minimal benefits, and it’d be 100% reliant on welds… but still no real benefits unless SOA. And I’m not interested in a 6+” lift.

They are perches for SOA. Saves trying to reuse factory perch after grinding them off. Aqualu sold or gave me 2 1/2” sq tube with radius holes. Same thing. Just probably cost more. How much are these? $225 a pair?? LOL

Three years ago I bought a rebuilt Saginaw pump for $48. At the time it seemed like a better option than swapping in yet another used pump and hoping it would work better than the screaming one that I first installed. Over the last few weeks the rebuilt one got really noisy at idle once it warmed up. I flushed about a litre of new fluid in the rebuilt pump and it seemed to be quieter. The next time I drove it, it was loud again.

This time it was $123 for a new pump ($13 more than a rebuilt one. It’s not in yet, but it came with this test report:

Pressure relief kicks in at 1492 psi, and volume seems adequate at idle to 3000 rpm. I’m not a P/S expert, but what I’ve read is 1200 psi is considered adequate for P/S and 1500 is the higher end unless you have a hydraulic ram on top of the steering box.

Volume seems adequate, but I won’t know for certain till it’s in. The pump should have the same volume as the last since it is also for a ‘79 3/4 ton Chevy 4x4 (also).

The stupidest thing I’ve ever bought. 47” michillin military tires. Chevy 350 with a turbo400. I couldn’t say no for $2000. Runs drives and stops.

Tiny.

Is that lower section under the front bumper to keep cars from going completely under it? I knew a guy here that drove through a car with his 40. The car driver lost control and crossed the yellow line. Occupants in the car didn’t have a chance.

It probably came with hydro boost for the brakes... crank the psi up to 1800 psi and it'll stop quicker... 60-0 in 2 minutes.

Most of the time it would be insane... The Blizzard of 1996 would have been the perfect proving grounds for it. I drove the 40 through it and the snow line was usually over the hood before It'd get stuck.

Lol, tires alone must be worth what you paid.

Jeebus that thing is huge 🤣
The tires make the Suburban look smaller… and the also the guy who has such a big grin on his face too.

Years back, a guy who pulled up beside me at Shields lake with his Ford Crew Cab long box. He commented that he needed the 2’ lift and massive tires to go places my 40 with minimal lift and 33s could go. Mostly because it was over 22’ long and a 50+’ turning circle vs a 13’ 40’s 22’ (+/-) turning circle.

Went to a car show in Victoria today. Interesting mix of import and domestic.

Thought this thing was pretty awesome, haha! Love that none of this is visible from the outside.

Why... I'm sure there are faster engines that could go in the wood paneled Station waggon... It's not like one could tow much with it. I'd much rather see it in a 55 or 60 series.

It is impressive that they stuffed it in there, but, why one of those land yachts?

I just remember these cars from when I was a kid. There was a certain kind of middle class suburb family that would buy these. Stuffing a cummins in one is more of a statement than anything useful I think. This one seems pretty well executed.

There were a whole line of cummins conversions at the meet. Obvsiously some a lot more useful.

Ha, is the engine sitting on the ground?

You know, that's a great point. Dry sump maybe? (kidding) A very custom oil pan me thinks. In retrospect I should have a had a better look at this thing.
