I was just looking at this trans cooler. Looks a little ragged. I want to put a new one in. Did an internet search, couldn’t really find anything.

Anyone have a lead on where I could get a quality replacement?


Also, I want to thank everyone for their input on my many questions/issues. It’s appreciated 👍🏻

I was looking for a direct fitment, but I might need to go to a universal one like this.

Those look bad ass. Not sure I need that much quality though. $510 +tax/shipping is steep.
 
You could remove the cooler, clean it, inspect closely for signs of oxidation/corrosion damage to the tubes then paint it (lightly). Or, check the parting out section and pick up a used cooler in better shape.

I am a dummy, beyond cosmetics is there a reason for a light coat of paint? Is it for corrosion?
 
Yes, corrosion protection. A thin coat of paint won't significantly affect heat transfer (they come painted when new).
Thanks, I will put this on my list. I already plan to do the tubes below the headlamp while I replace the transmission hoses.

I ran a Derale cooler to replace my 250k unit and it maintains 180-190F tranny oil temp @ 120F heat in Vegas
 
3FE - This hose I assume for the heater, it’s got a clamp on it, but the hose appears to keep going behind the fire wall. Is it just an illusion, and end right behind the grommet?

You're already there, I'd replace that hose (which butts up to the grommet). If you have OCD you can replace that grommet also but IME if the grommet is intact and has a good seal on the pipe no good reason to replace it (the grommet).

After removing the hose clamp IME it's best to first slice the hose lengthwise in a couple of places ie: where it's attached to the pipe at the firewall, then grab the sliced section with needle nose pliers and carefully peel it back, then work on another section and eventually you'll be able to peel the remainder of the hose off the pipe without damaging the pipe. Work slowly, don't cut the grommet and don't just twist or pull on that hose before cutting it as you run the risk of deforming the pipe coming off the heater core.

Here's an example of a hobby knife that comes in handy for cutting hoses: I generally use a #11 blade, the one that comes to a sharp point (like a long narrow triangle) or if it's a long reach I might use a #12 blade that looks like a hook or claw (don't slice into the grommet).

Oh okay, awesome. I mistakenly thought btlshp meant it continued past the fire wall.

Awesome guys. Thank you so much! These hoses were all tired! A few of them were ready to bubbled, and ready to burst.

I’m going to have so much piece of mind when this is done. I’ll have a 100% new cooling, and hose set up.

Only thought in the back of my mind, blown HG from over heating. I was telling my wife if that’s the case we’ll just have a shop, pull the whole motor and build it. And then she suggested we increase the horsepower while we’re at it.
