LC dumped its coolant on a trip to the alpine lake this morning… I’m so over working on it. I had it dropped off at the mechanic.

What blew out?

PHH?
OPHH?
Radiator?
Throttle body hose?
Loose clamp from the worm gear style clamp?

Deep breath. I have been there. Seven years ago two weeks from now. Bring it home from the mechanics on Thursday to start back into it. It will get better…

@JonChimpo : did you take any photos of where the leak was coming from? (post them up if you have any)

I think it’s coming from the water pump area. It was pretty hard to see with all the shrouding, and hot coolant spraying.

I had the whole family loaded, and gear loaded up it a 2 week heat wave. Right now, my money is less valuable than my time.

The cooling system was on the to-do. Once I get it back I’ll be replacing every hose, and clamp.

It was just a bummer, we were following the neighbors up in their 4Runner. The kids were really looking forward to the lake.

Not sure, I wasn’t trying to dig into on the side of a freeway with the kids in the car. I think either the rad, or water pump. Nothing else that I could see looked to be leakingz

I'll put my money on the radiator if the leak is near the front.

Big bummer brother. The heat this weekend is brutal. I am up in Redding and mine got freaky hot while bumping up a long grade from Black Rock headed toward Manton. I just ordered a bunch of cooling system components. YOU CAN DO EEET!

This LC will never be sold. It was willed to me by my cousin Clinton. But it’s super frustrating.
It’s not considered “sold” if you gift it to me 😆

I get it though it’s a bummer. Sometimes I get tired of working on my stuff but knowing I’ll always do better than someone I pay keeps me doing it.

I’ve never been one to hire someone to do something I can do. Lately though, I’ve been paying people to work on my house, and now fix my car while I play with my kids. I enjoy playing more than wrenching in a hot-ass garage. It’s been pretty sweet, although I do not enjoy the check writing portion of the transaction.

Got the call back. Water pump, and upper rad hose was shot. Lower one is very soft as well.

I’m just going to have him take care of the pump and two hoses. $450 in labor sounds pretty good to not have to work in 110deg garage.

I’ll tackle the rest on my own. With that being said does anyone recommend a good heater/cooler hose kit (if one is available)

If the work isn't being done at a Toyota dealer you could ask the mechanic to install an AISIN water pump, they're the same quality as the Toyota pump.

I agree (as always) with @Kernal do the other main hose too. They are likely all the same vintage, and not to be rude or presume anyone’s level of knowledge, but “soft” isn’t much of a technical description of the state of the hose.

I’m just stating what I was told. When I was under there last I did take note they were pretty old, real soft, with hard edges. Kind of like me. 🤣

Dang that is rough. Sorry for the bad timing. Once you get all the rubber stuff replaced, you will be a lot happier with the rig. I eventually changed all the coolant hoses. small ones in the intake also. some were getting to the gummy stage of soft and i know the heater valve was near its end. Fortunately, although at the time i was bummed, the radiator started leaking in my garage... that started me replacing the hoses, including that Pesky heater hose that everyone hates (although was not that bad for me).

one last thing... watching my dad struggle to resolve issues while big plans were foiled helped me when i became an adult. I could have hated the vehicles for what happened but instead I learned a little about them and was prepared for a cooler head when things happened.
