Looks awesome, I've been thinking about driving up to Slee to get some lockers and armor. I have just found no where yet that I've needed them. But now that I've discovered Durango's only 3 hours away and some awesome trails into 12,000' plus altitude that might change.

You don't need lockers or armor for most of Durango area.

Just wrapping up our Sedona AZ mini-vacation over the thanksgiving holiday weekend. Wow - what a cool place. Did Broken Arrow when we got here. Nothing else we did compared.

Hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving! I'm thankful I bought a Land Cruiser!

Yeah, the boyz and Slee do good work and have been really happy with the quality of there stuff.

Broken arrow is what inspired me to get an LC! my Datsun pickup couldn't make the opener rock climb. I have pics of my 40 on that trail and is what brought my wife and I together...:D

Some pretty country over there in Sedona!

Its official - KG5FHX (aka Kilo Golf Fife Foxtrot Hotel Xray).

Getting Ham installed tomorrow in the Hundy by the guys at Specialty Communication. Ali - may need your help to get the Yaesu FT-8800 configured. Cheers!

Congrats dude, now get a vanity call sigh 'cause I ain't gonna be able to spit that out over the radio. We should start a new thread on some potential call signs. How about KG5LDD? stands for Larry Darryl Darryl. KG5LGI? KG5HUNDY? KG5LIZ?

You best be sporting the pocket protector son. Pappy has all the special pocket protectors.

Tell us, was there an eight year old to contend with at the test? Come on, you can tell us...you were skeered, weren't you?

I can help you with the program the radio, lickity split. I still got Pappy's cable and software, BAAAWWWWWAAAAHHHAAAAA. He keeps forgetting that I have it, going on four years and counting. Old people are so easy to screw with.....

Poop Ash. I've been trying to figure out where the heck it went. I've asked everybody but you! Thanks for fessn' up.

Larry - Congrats on being a total nerd! You will love the 8800 radio - that's the same one that I've got. I forget how much I love the ham until I try to use the CB for a while - like we did in the Puerco this past weekend. CB is such poor sound quality and only line of sight. The ham is miles ahead. Next time I see you, remind me to show you my little Baofeng handheld ham radio. I think it was only $35, but it's handy to put in my shirt pocket while I'm out of the truck so I don't miss any communications. It's a Chinese model, but it's great quality - at least so far. Cannot beat the price.

Kool - thanks for the offer to help set up the radio - btw its installed. Paul and John at Specialty Communication did a great job. Paul has a nice shop - very cool set up.

I ended up putting the head unit in the small space where the sun glass tray pivot's down (right above the center rear view mirror). Fits perfect, out of the way yet functional. I mounted the remote speaker right above the driver left ear on the door jam piling. I considered mounting it under the driver right arm rest like yours, but that would have inhibited seat adjustment. Also considered passenger foot panel - but Liz will find it and kick it loose.

Do you think you can help me get going this Sat before our scheduled snow run departure?

I think the club should consider provide this "instant nerd kit" when a club member get their ham. Perhaps this will provide encouragement for those that feel the effort may be too great. This incentive would have made my decision much easier.

Lol, I got my HAM license about 2 months ago.... KG5ETL.... But I still really don't know how to use it... I only have a hand held but will get the same one all guys have 8800 eventually...... nerds is probably the correct term but I could think of worse things I could be... Lol.... Larry you are really moving on everything.... Good job!

I can set up your radio at the meetup spot while we wait for others to show up. It doesn't take that long since I'll have my laptop with me.

Sounds like you met Paul, the father of the NM Megalink repeater system. He and his son are good guys.

Where did you do your course work for the HAM?

I contacted Marty Soffran who heads up an ABQ ham club and coordinates monthly testing for ARRL. His email is MARTY SOFFRAN <lindamarty@cableone.net>. He will send you study material and help you focus on passing the test. I have attached a few of the key files he sent me for study. Good luck.
