Hi guys,

I have a 3B in my BJ60 that's mated to a H55F with a manual transfer case (no vacuum actuator). I can get in and out of 2WD / 4WD and I have confirmed that the front wheels are driven but selecting 4 LOW is like being in neutral. If I push the lever all the way over to the right and force it while in a gear I can hear slight grinding of gears but I'm really pushing it over hard...

H4-N

So today I took the HI / LOW shifter linkage apart to see if it had excess play... it didn't really have much and the lever on the t-case the ball joint attaches to seems tight and rotates about 90 degrees with a clunk between the who positions. I put it all together again with no change.

Any suggestions for next steps to resolve this?

Thanks,
Jeff

have you drained the gear oil and check it?
I was thinking it was the lever on the top of the transfer but it is moving if you go from 4H to N
is there up and down movement in the lever?

Thanks 3_puppies.

I was thinking about it again last night and I adjusted the linkage the wrong way... crawled under again today and made the linkage almost as short as it could go and voila I have 4LOW again! There's still something funky going on with the two linkages but that can wait until the chassis comes off.
