I purchased two new front CV axles from an online Toyota OEM parts dealer/store and one arrived yesterday and the other arrived today. The first arrived shipped in the original Toyota box (flimsy cardboard, not best for shipping) and the box was super mangled with one axle shaft end sticking out of it. Upon inspection "the only thing I found wrong" was the metal lip of the outer portion of the assembly being bent in a few places. Fortunately, the shipper insured the package, so I should be able to get it taken care of.
However!! ... the second axle arrived today, shipped in a more sturdy UPS box with one end a little squished (not too bad, really) and upon opening the box and inspecting the axle, I found the same problem!! I've attached a picture, and this is clearly not factory spec, but I can't for the life of me figure out why two new axles shipped separately have the same problem.
Have any of you had any new axles from Toyota arrive this way?
Fortunately, like I said, the shipper has insurance, and after speaking with the Toyota parts manager from the store, the insurance company might just have me "scrap" the items and refund me. So, I could have 99% good & new extra axles laying around after the refund and ordering new ones (I imagine that I could straighten out the metal with some pliers, et al).
The other funny, not funny thing is that I live in a Phoenix suburb and the parts were shipped from the Toyota Parts Distribution Center here in Phoenix to the Toyota dealership where I ordered the parts from and then sent back to me.
Thoughts?
