IM NEW HERE, AND IM OLD, MY DAILY DRIVER IS AN 82 SCRAMBLER
IM DOING A TOTAL FRAME OF ON A 1972 FJ40
WOULD I DEVALUE THE PROJECT BY INSTALLING NEWER MODEL DOORS?
I HAVE THE 72S, BUT IN ROUGH SHAPE, I ALSO HAVE A NICE SET OF NEWET STYLE.
IF THE ANSWER IS PUT ON NEWER STYLE WHAT PARTS DO I NEED AND ARE THEY AVAILABLE?
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
BERNIE

Welcome to the site. A lot of us are old too. Sorry to hear about your jeep ownership. Maybe you'll get over it when the 40 is done. Atleast it's a scrambler. You dont have to YELL.

As for value, it depends how "Original " you want your build to be. A lot of body parts are interchangeable and some can easily be swapped out at another time. My 40 sports several model year parts because i like the look of certain ones. I run a V8, so it's a resto mod type vehicle anyway. I think to use the later doors all you need is different striker plates. I think they are no longer available, but you can put a wanted ad in the classified section. Or, maybe find someone willing to trade older doors for your newer doors. Theres also a Clubhouse section too. You might find some folks local to your area. Don't be a stranger and we like pictures too.

My PO put a 76 hard top and doors on the 72 factory soft top I got from him in 1982. He told me he had to do some mods to get the rear ambulance doors to fit/work - I think it was welding in some plate on the floor. He did it about 1980 or so.

I love the front doors recessed door handles.

Its way cheaper to not be a purest.

Feel free to upload pics, this can help a lot!

PS. Use to have a CJ5 Jeep too (still in my brother's garage), sins of my youth!...

@Greek Cruiserhead beat me to it.
Mud salute: :flipoff2:
Stop yelling at us.
I didn't read the responses but I assume someone said the later doors don't quite fit.
I have rebuilt many doors with basic welding skills. It is not a terrible project.
Welcome and good luck recovering from Jeep disease.
If you don't want your rough doors, someone like me does. Don't junk them.

Living in Canby you'll want to really rust proof everything on your rebuild. As to your door issue: my opinion is keep everything year specific if you want to sell off in a few years. If you're going to keep the vehicle long term - like long enough it that it won't look restored any longer and might become a parts rig - then do whatever works for you.

Yeah, please don't YELL. We may be hard of hearing but we can read just fine. ;)
