So I am more of a 60 guy and don't know to much about the 4runners. My wife has always wanted An early 90s and I came across this on .craigslist. What questions do i want to ask and what do I want to look for? Any opinions welcome.

1991 toyota 4runner

id be worried about rust and the head gaskets. it says that the head gaskets were done so that's a plus but you still have the 3.blow motor. id look for something with the 3.4 in it. better motor and more power. the 3.0 was Toyota first hybrid engine, power of a 4 cyl and fuel economy of an 8 cyl

Thank you I will keep my guard up.

That is kind of like ranking "The Father Son, or Holy Ghost " I don't think the word worst is applicable to any. Perhaps lest addmired.

I'm on my 3rd 4runner and I have owned a 2nd Gen. a 3rd Gen. and now a 4TH gen. I sold my 91 because my wife
won't drive a stick shift so I bought the 3rd gen. which we use almost daily and now bought a 4th Gen. just lately since the 3rd Gen. will go to
my daughter this summer. If your guts feels it's a good buy get it, i still miss my 2nd Gen. though. @60Man

If it isn't a scam the lift and stock size tires has me puzzled. I'd give the front suspension and in particular the steering linkage a thorough looking-over.

As to the comment about the 3.0L's, I'm getting better mileage from mine (with an auto, 31's, & 4.56's) than I got from my 22R (with a manual, 4.88's, & 33's). As to power, when you turn off the economy mode it does pretty good compared to the 22R. Its not an LS, but I feel that I've got enough power for most everything I want to do. There's rust stains deep in the engine bay, clearly mine has been opened up at least once. No idea what was done, so no idea if things were tweaked to make it run better than stock, but it idles like stock.

I think the "Mud Tires available" part explains the lift. Added the lift, put on larger (mud) tires, and ran it. Now that he's selling, he dug the stock wheels back out and put them back on.

So maybe not a scam but a trail truck that is being sold as a daily driver??

I wouldn't exactly say trail truck - not much else on it says it saw much off-road use. Might just have something else to put the mud tires on or figures he can get more selling them separately.

I just sent a message asking if the motor work was done at a local shop and if they have any paper? I hope this will clear up scam or not.

I just talked with the guy and he said he did the work himself at his own shop. He may be on the level. But I don't have a good feeling. I am going to pass.
Thank you all for the help.
