Well this is my second post here so bear with me.
First let me say if it wasn't for all the knowledge and support here I would never have even considered this project.

I found this 1970 "sick" pig that needed a lot medicine to make her healthy again that the PO didn't have time for. Well that was a year ago and after reading post after post I slowly have begun to try to get her healthy in the gravel with no garage at this time!!

Plans are for a new carbureted 350, 700r trany, stock trans, fj60 axles, SOA, and body off frame for paint and powder coating. May never get done but you have to start somewhere!!!

Thank you! She is. Rust on the roof and a little here and there but nothing too bad! Those pic were taken when I first got her home after I started in on the inside.

Here a few more from recent work

Yep.. My brother lives in Calif and brought it up to me. I'm in the wet state of Wa. Roof was in GREAT shape!! It will work out great!!!

Yep I bought one out of Calif that has no rust. I'm going back and forth with the guy that's going to be doing the welding for me about what need to be replaced and what doesn't. I want to replace the rockers and he seems to think I'm crazy!! I'm still waiting on him so I can order parts from bobm!! I'm thinking I'm just going to go ahead and order everything but...."floor pans front and back and quarter patches ect!

Oh Man, you did it now! :)

Just a note... While you have the doors apart, check the hinge pads ( where the hinges bolt up ) they tend to crack. Look at the top of the doors, not the window frame, but the actual door, cracks happen there, also.

:-) kinda like this?!? Yep she cracked there and also at the window frames. I'm going to send off the hinges to be rebuilt and door handles to be refinished. I'm wanting to do as much stuff that I can do myself to try and save cash for the things I know I'm going to need help with!! I had a 75 fj40 in high school and sold it when me and my ex started having kiddos....(sure wish I still had it!!) but I have never torn into ANYTHING like this before!!! I sure can use ANY and ALL help for you guys here !!!! Great bunch of folks!!!

Yeah, kinda like that! That one looks bad. Not a lot of good metal to weld to. I welded the cracks, then made plates to cover the whole area and welded those in. Might ask a pro what he suggests.

Ya I'm not going to do any of the welding. I have a guy that is body man that's going to do all of the welding for me. A couple of the window frames have cracks and one of the inside window slides is broken and needs to be welded. I've welded in high school and here and there a little but nothing like the art that I've seen here!!! Thanks for the replys and advise and PLEASE keep it coming... I'll be needing it!! Thanks again!

Well had a few days to work a little more on the pig. Took out the remainder of the glass, took out most of the guts to the tailgate and checked for rust, removed all the wiper arms and transfer case controls from under the dash, removed all vacuum lines for the same, cut out the dash,

got all the body mounts broke free and bolts removed, and got the gas tank ready to come out. Next step is to try and get the body off the frame so I can start working on the frame and running gear.
Thanks Tony

Looking good man! Wish I had the space to take the body off the frame. Makes everything much easier to get too.

Thanks! I'm not sure about the room part!! I'm just trying to do as much as I can with just a carport more or less. I just figure I'll step up to the plate a take a swing. Easy tearing things apart.. ;-) I'm just going to keep plugging away doing as much as I can till I hit a wall! Thanks again for the encouragement!!
Tony

You've been busy! Nice to have a clean canvas. What's your plans, ideas for the center dash?

Yes I've been trying! It's so much less intimating when you know you can ask someone who has been down that road for advise !!
I'm going to put an aftermarket a/c and heat unit in along with new upgraded gauges and toggles etc..
I've been stashing new parts as I go so I'm not hit all at once. I've never owned a new car (always thought it was foolish to spend the money) but now that the kids are grown all my money is getting put into the "Sic Pig" It feels great getting parts all bought and paid for in advance!!
Thanks for the encouragement!!
Tony

Great looking project!
Have you considered upgrading to a split case? When I started mine I was talking to Kurt @ Cruiser Outfitters and he suggested I upgrade to a FJ 60 split case at the same time I upgrade the engine and trans. I cant say if I would have future issues with the one piece case but I'm glad I took his advice for the peace of mind.
Just reading about how you want to convert you old T-case and thought I would mention the upgrade.

Thank you. After reading and rereading post I'm on the fence about the Tcase and most everything else!! Well not that bad but close.. I'm trying to fallow scrapdaddys advice and pick my battles!! The Tcase I have was in the 55 when I bought it. It was mated up to a 700r with all custom drive lines. I rebuilt the drive lines and had them powder coated and had the trans rebuilt as well. If I went with a split case would need a different adapter from Tcase to trans, and change out drive lines and also would I lose my parking brake??
Thanks Tony
