There are lots of guys more knowledgeable than I when it comes to all things Toyota but I can tell you this, I was stepping over dollars to pick up dimes when I started my 55 build doing exactly what you describe and trying to reuse parts I had. If you start with a list of all the parts you would like to eventually end up with and the cost associated compared to the cost to rebuild an inferior part that total difference in real money is insignificant compared to the total amount of money you’ll get wrapped into a pig once you tear one down as far as you are.
Once I sold my stock T-case and replaced with a split case I had about a $200.00 difference VS rebuild my old and the cost to retube my drive shafts was quoted at about $250.00, at the end of the day I can’t tell you if it was worth it but for $500.00 or less I don't have to think about it potentially being a weak link.
I made a lot of costly mistakes early on and I’m literally paying the price now, these things get expensive when you gut them and start over so you might as well build it like you’re going keep it forever.

Good luck, it looks like you are off to a good start.

I hear exactly what you are saying!! Weak links suck!!! I'm going to take your advice and go ahead and put the upgrade in now instead of two years from now!! I really really appreciate your upfront and honest help!!
Thank you!! Tony

I think new ones are @ $2500. I rebuilt the old one I had, but would of bought a new one had I known, since already buying a new H55 transmission. My had a hole in the case, that needed welding.

Kurt helped me find the case from a local guy and I paid $300.00 for a used rebuildable split case and $245.00 for the rebuild kit from cruiser outfitters.

I would get a hold of Georg https://forum.ih8mud.com/members/orangefj45.1209/ for a used one, he's a good guy to work with.

For new get a hold of Beno https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/getting-to-beno-for-oem-toyota-parts.793816/ For a new, also great to work with.

Georg could rebuild a used one and have it set with twin sticks, you'd have no worries.

Sweet!! Thank you!! I'll have to go with a used one ...$2500 + $750 for the adapter to the 700r would put me way back. Would hate to get in the gun safe and start selling stuff;-)!!

Thanks! I called Kurt today and he's out of the country all this month. I'm gonna start getting parts that I know I'm not going to be using now and get a few bucks in the bank.
Thanks again!!

I agree on the used one. New is just an option that I wish I knew about. Fun to think about stuff.

Where in WA are you? I'm up near Bham, just about 12 mi south of the BC border. I might need to come check out another project for some inspiration

You don’t mess around do you, looks like you dove straight into the deep end. I like your style!

Well you and scrapdaddy started it!!!! And by the way....drove in the deep end or OFF the deep end!!! Because...well ya know how sometimes your looking for cruiser parts and you run acrossed something that you really had NO bussiness buying..... Well I just couldn't pass this up. 1970 40.. Things been beat but now I have a home for the disk axles that's under the 55, the stock transfer with the. 700r adapter and it's got a very strong 350 in it now. Everything will marry up, now all I need is another 700r transmission. Oh yeah....... I forgot...... It also has an ARB rear locker :-) ....at $1500 I HAD TO BUY IT !!!! The ARB will be going into the Porker!!
