The basic head unit wiring isn't hard, its all the accessories that kill you...

Good point... It's always helpful to install a extra fuse box or two so you have a easy way to run power and grounds for all the goodies... I have a 4 gauge and 8 gauge power wire from the battery to different points in the interior which feed all my accessories plus room for future expansion....

Would this fit cleanly in an LX? I've got a 99 LX. I'm just thinking that above the head unit, the dash seems to take a harder rake forward than the landcruiser does. I'm wondering if the top of the head unit would clear and fit cleanly without trimming in an LX... Anyone here with an LX that can comment? Thanks,

Any of these Double Din units will not just slide in like the 100 will.
Brock has an LX and he has gone through it.
Check his Head unit installation out.

BBQ Boy, so you've had this unit installed for a few weeks, can you give us an update on your pros/cons? I'm looking at upgrading to this head unit from the Clarion I installed a while back. And, if you're using an iPhone, how does the integration and hands free work?

Update:
Simply put...... I love it. The only beef I had with it was that if there was a slightly sunny day the screen washed out making it almost impossible to see. Well that was before I figured out how to adjust the color settings. Now it's great.
The pro's are the Bluetooth is the best I've used. My iphone4 works seamlessly with the Bluetooth aspect, ex: iPod and Pandora. This weekend I was able to use the navigation. Being able to use the navigation while driving is great. I'm pretty happy with the maps cosmetically and functionally.
I have really enjoyed this unit so much that I'm going to put one in my wife's Suburban.

I have been waiting for these units to come out as well I got my Lexus in February, and was ready to pull the trigger as soon as I bought it to put navigation in. I have been leaning more towards the Z130BT I like the bigger screen.

no it was not me....I got a Lexus it is a different install as wiring is all f'd up for Lexus Nakamichi plug and our opening is rounded and slanted at top...so I had to get a special trim piece for it to look professional and factory or there would be a gap at top.

I am guessing I will have to do the same thing, same year LX :crybaby: Do you have any information about the different plug and trim piece?

how is that camera mounted? Looks like someone could swipe it fairly easily

I guess they could swipe it if they really wanted it. The hard wire is connected to the camera itself so they would have to cut the cable rendering the camera useless. The mount of the camera is behind the license plate and the license plate is screwed in soooo tight die to the threads being stripped.

I have volume nob envy. I still haven't found a suitable place to install this flush mounted camera I bought. I don't want to drill into the main body. Does anyone know if there is enough room between the rear bumper and bumper cap to fit a camera?

Try the spoiler. Nice high mounted spot.

If it's any consolation, my 2006 with the factory nav (etc) screen was clearly designed and tested at night and/or on very cloudy days. To date, I've never seen a worse dash design for a display. It seems okay at best... until you compare it with any other factory setup - then it ranges from not well thought out to plain dumb. It's angled too far up and has nothing to screen the sun.

Still love the truck... just feel like I'm at the ATM or gas pump when I use the display with the sunroof open.

There was a guy in the 80's section that put it on the inside of the tailgate up high. I think it is a pretty good idea that way people really don't even know it is there to steal, it was nice as you could see a ways behind him and also see the rear bumper/trailer hitch.

I've considered both this and the tail gate, but I've heard the overhead brake light really ruins the image at night. As far as the tailgate goes, I don't want to drill into the main body.

I'm not too worried about someone stealing a camera that was $25, new. If I've got to worry about that, the $900 HU its hardwired into is probably a larger concern.

I may take off the bumper cap just to see how much room is in there between it an the frame.

I'm not too worried about the tiny little hole that was drilled for the camera. It's behind the license plate, very small and has a grommet on it.

Ok so I ordered the pioneer. Also bought a new amp and speakers for the doors. I'm thinking I'll keep the OEM amp and subwoofer and then run the door speakers from the new amp. Any suggestions about a good location for the amp?
Stay tuned. I'm about to post some pics of my new install. It will have amp location pics.

you going to do a build thread so everything will be in one thread instead of half a dozen....gotta make it easy on us to read. :D
