Hello all!

Long time lurker, first time poster, and soon to be proud new owner of a good ol Pig. I am flying up to San Francisco next week to pick up what I've named the Salty Sea Pig and drive her down the coast here to Southern California.

I've started to do a parts search for this Pig and am quickly realizing it's not as easy as it was finding parts for my FJ62. SO, my first question is … are there any parts on these beasts that are the same as the FJ40? Specifically I am looking for the rear side marker lights (year 1972) … from a computer they look like they could be the same as on the same year fj40?

Yay another new pig owner in san diego. Not sure about the swapping with 40s but there are experts on here that will help. Check the classifieds, also you just gripe about needing a part someone will pipe up say they one. Good luck and welcome to the sty.

You've not lurked long enough, otherwise you'd know that the mere verbal utterance of NaCl within a few feet of a Pig can exacerbate the rot, let alone a naming inclusion.

As for finding parts, it'd be a good idea to freshen up on tracking, baiting, stand setting, and long distance kill shots on large, one point, pink unicorn bucks, because that's what finding parts for Pigs is equivalent to.

Serious note:

What 40/55 parts are interchangeable are still relatively difficult to source, since they're most drivetrain related. F and early 2F parts have long been on the extinct list.

That said, I believe the rear side marker lights may be interchangeable, but thinking they're still available, or there's sufficient NOS quantities, anyway.

Welcome to the group and enjoy your journey. The side marker lights are the same, but the rubber gaskets are not. You have to buy FJ40 Front marker gaskets, for the back of the 55. Problem is, at least when I bought mine, only the right side remain. Buy two right gaskets and flip one for the left side, right, almost. They have two drain slots in the bottom for water, you'll need to cut new ones for the right side and fill in the ( now top ) slots with silicone. I used black and trimmed it nice, can't tell.

After taking the picture I remembered the 40 gasket is actually a bit wider than a 55 gasket. They will sit at a different angle, but you really don't notice it.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and great info in regard to the lights! I will get right on that. AND wise words in regards to that use of the 4 letter curse word for Cruisers. Ha! I just liked how the name sounded together. Its coming from a coastal area to another coastal area so the salt is there, and as with most all of these, the rust is there, but from what I have been able to see its manageable and it most definitely the first item on my to-do list. I have a few pictures from the current owner, but want to get my own once I'm up there. I will update with photos, as well as photos from my journey south down Big Sur and such. Thanks gents!

Thanks will order those too. Would love to have all new lights around. Just need to find front lights side and front turn.

Can anyone confirm the front 40 lights being the same?

IIRC, the base for the front marker lights used on a 40 are the same as the base for the rear marker lights on a Pig.

Front marker lights for a Pig have a flat base and use the same base as rear marker lights for a 40.

Obviously, the front marker lights were phased put of both Pigs & 40s...
