Don't a lift void the warranty. How would you get around that?
No, just anything directly caused by the lift, as I understand, the auto manufacturer must bear the burden of proof that the modifiction caused the problem.

That's NOT mustard. I wish it was. I have three new photos in my desktop background rotation, though.

I never thought I'd see a day where people were ragging on black steel wheels in an offroad forum.

Well, it's on the FJ Cruiser, so it must suck

:D :D

Nah, I was just kiddin...I was more making fun of ricers than the FJ. I'm sure they just threw on some wheels laying around so they could do some testing. I'll be in the market for a new truck next year and the FJ is second in line behind the tacoma.

Actually, I believe those are the rims currently used for the spare wheel on Tacomas and Tundras.

I'm kicking around the idea of putting them all around on my 80.

Yes, it's truly unfortunate that they as Toyota enthusiasts care where Toyota is taking their product.

What is unfortunate is the way they feel to communicate it. I fail to what constant posting of "This sucks", "What a Turd", etc... accomplishes. Are you guys afraid that the people who buy this truck are going to be happy with their purchase? Are you worried that we might think we got a good truck? Are you trying to get all of the people who like the truck to see the error of their ways?

Post after post with one or two word slams tells the other members of this board nothing. If you don't like the truck post why. If you feel it necessary to tell everyone else about the mistake you perceive being made by Toyota, please do. Give reasons, name some specific things you don't and do like. But please try and have an intelligent discussion.

You're not being specific enough- this forum is part of a bulletin board that caters to enthusiasts who are interesting in Land Cruisers and using them for their original intended purpose- off road and as a heavy duty work horse capaple of taking them to some of the most hostile places on earth.

Your asking "Are you guys afraid that the people who buy this truck are going to be happy with their purchase" has nothing to do with those average people who will buy the vehicle, the same people who will never take them off road. The participants of this forum will use them for the intended purpose of the original FJ40 and its descendants- they will get used and abused, and they have HIGH expectations of them. Whether or not the "FJ Cruiser" lives up to this high ideal and whether or not we worry " that we might think we got a good truck" are two different things. A Chevy silverado might be a good truck, but that doesn't make it a Toyota Land Cruiser. Name plates and a bezel isn't going to do it either.
The "FJ Cruiser" will have to prove itself, and some may hold it to a higher standards than others. To some, and myself included, it does not deserve to be called a Cruiser.

There are 167 threads in the FJ Cruiser section, and of this second, 3,336 posts. A third of them might be "it sucks," a third might be "no it doesn't." The last third will be a technical reason for one of the other regardless by the same people who have already explained themselves. Spend some time here, hang out, have a beer. But don't expect everyone to reiterate everything they like/dislike about the "FJ" everytime it comes up.

Cheers,

100% agree with the above statement, and also if it isn't diesel, I don't care!

Alright I'll post why

it might as well say 4 runner on it, where are the big axles that can take 300 000kms of hard abuse and neglect, where is the 2mm thick body panels that are on a real land cruiser, where is the tough 1 ton frame, drivetrain and brakes that are on a real Land cruiser? Where is the diesel motor for it is another big question? The interior isn't intended for off road at all. I know I won't be the first one to buy into the FJ cruiser. I know real Toyota Land Cruisers are the toughest 4 wheel drive trucks ever made, and the way the FJ cruiser looks, it is more made to be a road worrior then a off road truck!.

One specific reason for "this sucks", or "what a turd": the available colors are lame, what f'n pack of starbuck drinking ass pirates picked them?? WHY IS WHITE NOT A CHOICE? I think this turd would make a great fleet car for "outdoor" business. What other choices are there for smaller hardtop secure off road vehicles??

who ever picked the colors probably never leaned against a dark color truck in 100+ degree temps in July. Ever wonder why all work trucks are white?

We'll now you sucked me in. I've been doing a pretty good job of ignoring this thing. I think it is actually a pretty cool vehicle. If it were the replacement for the RAV4 I'd say it was super cool and that Toyota was headed in the right direction. My big problem with it is the name. "FJ" Cruiser? WTF is that? F is a designation for a motor that this thing clearly hasn't got. If they had tried "40 Cruiser" it would sound stupid but at least it would be consistent with the model it seems to take some styling cues from. That model happens to be the 40 series Land Cruiser… FJ40. BJ40, HJ4* they all shared the style. If you say "my FJ" I have no idea WTF you are referring to except that it is powered by a straight six gasser. Could be an FJ25 or an FJ80 or anything in between. The problem is that this thing was designed by a bunch of California based non-enthusiasts who have never seen a Land Cruiser in its glory driving through 10 foot high grass in Africa or 4000 feet below ground in a Canadian mine. They have seen their little version, hauling soccer moms around in Silicon Valley. These marketers are so uneducated that they believed that Toyota used the same naming convention as Jeep because "My uncle had an FJ and my Dad had a CJ ".

It’s all about the marketers though. They'll sell a whack of these things and the guys that are currently driving mini trucks will end up using them on the trail in ten years. In two decades they will be a fart in the wind. They won't even get mentioned in the 100-year anniversary Land Cruiser book.

There, I've said my piece. I hope to never have to mention these turds again.

Like the US 100 series?

Where are the drum brakes? The carb and carb fan? Why doesn't it have a 120hp inline six to push around 5-6k pounds of vehicle? Where's the leather interior? The built in telephone and navigation system? And the do-dad that tells you what the outside temp is? Why didn't they build this damn thing with leftover military truck parts, like the orig? Why did they put AC in it?

As long as it will rust when there's 40% humidity, and comes with an optional wood interior trim package, I'll be happy. :D

I just can't believe that Toyota keeps letting their advertising agency design their cars for them...

Just need to blow off some steam here, so excuse me while I rant.

Land Cruisers make up nearly every vehicle I have ever owned. They certainly are worthy of their claim to greatness. Thats the reason I've been so true to them.

On the other hand, Reading some of these posts about how inferior and uncapable this thing will be because it's based on a 4Runner platform just pisses me off.

Sure Toyota F'ed up in a number of ways, including in my eyes, the exterior, interior, the "Great Pillar", no diesel option and a few others. But they chose to use a versatile platform that has a number of applications and is plenty worthy in 95% of offroad situations. 4Runners aren't a Land Cruiser, but they're pretty good all the way around and will always find a space in my garage for at least one.

Afterall, it's the reliability factor that concerns me, not the ability to rock crawl or the GDamned solid axle. If I wanted that, I'd buy a F-ing CAT D9 Dozer or I'd use my 40.

I'm not fond of the non-removeable top or the bubble design, but the truck will do well at 85mph on the highway and offroad.

Thats it. I hope no offense was taken. :flipoff2:

For anyone familiar with the Miller Jeep Trail in Sou Cal Fig. 10 looks an awful lot like this section. Anyone know if they did any test runs up there.

Ultra, swank, lowenbrau, beaufort and Eric,

Thanks for posting something with some substance. Believe it or not I agree with most of the the concerns listed among all these posts. Personally I like the truck. There are things that I wish would have been done to better suit my needs off pavement, but I think they are at least heading in the right direction. This truck should be more capable then most of Toyota's current US lineup.

It was never my intent to turn this into a rant though I wholey failed at that. I just wanted to speak to the repetitive posts by the same people saying nothing more then "I hate it". I stand by what I said at the start of this, those posts accomplish nothing.

Ridge,
The funny thing is by responding to my posts you have given me what I wanted. Though you disagree with me, your posts are intelligent and address your issues with the truck. You have to agree that the posts that follow have been a better discussion then the couple word posts that preceed it. I was not upset that people dislike the FJ Cruiser, just that the threads are being littered with "I hate it", "What a POS" etc... IN hindsight I could have been much clearer on why my feathers were ruffeled.

Honestly, no offence meant.

Football starts in a couple minuites so I think I'll have that beer now.

 Cheers
