I am sure this has been asked before, forgive me..

I bought a 2000 LC but it only came with one key. The remote does not work.

How do I best get a spare key with the chip/programming?

I read several things, here and in other forums, and the results are contradictory.

I do not need a remote unlock key, just a key that will unlock and start my vehicle...

Thanks so much!

Many of the links in that threat are not working any longer. Much is confusing and contradictory. I would be grateful for an update.

Do you have the key code? If yes then a good locksmith can cut the key from that. If no, then take your title or other proof of ownership to a dealer and they will give you the key code. Take the cut key and follow the instructions here.

I used a EBay vendor named BBlocks to get a key cut for my LX, including remote, for $45. Then used the steps in the link above and it worked for me. Sometimes a bit finicky, have to attempt more than one time, but it does work.

Not sure what's confusing or contradictory or what links you need from it. The info in the first post is what you need. There's another thread right below that one on how to program the fob buttons.

The link you sent leads to a transponder for remote control entry. Do I need this key? I don't need remote entry (I don't believe it works)

It says if you want to program the new key you need a "master key."

I do not have the key code.

So I need:
1. Key code (from dealer, present title)
2. Order key with a chip
3. Have it cut
4. Program it in that "ritual" described on the instructions.

Correct?

What if the key I have is not the master key? It's held together by glue... Buttons don't work...

I am trying to "program" using the schamanistic ritual in the link. However I can't even get the "security light" to blink

I emailed the dealer and sent a copy of my registration with VIN#, they emailed the key code. I used BBBlocks on ebay and got two laser cut keys pre cut (lx470) for about $45. You need to program the keyless, and the immobilizer. You need the master to program the other immobilizers, and maybe you don't have that. I read the horor stories of people.losing them, and needing to pay and replace the ECU. I just popped the RFID capsule out of the remote and RTV'd it under the cover for the ignition tumbler. Works perfect.

FJ Cruiser keyless remotes work fine and fit in the keyshell. You need to remove the RFID since they are a different generation the system does not recognize, and will interfere with the immobilizer system. Easy fix, as trunkmonkey said, most of the info in the FAQ is a great resource.

I spoke to the dealer and the price for a new key is almost $400.

I tried copying the key twice at local shops but no good.

Just go to a good locksmith and they can do it for you.

My locksmith in Anchorage can make the keys with the transponder chip and/or with the remote keyless entry while you wait. They use ilco brand blanks and you do not need to have a master key. It is not expensive.
